Infrared studies of spinels—III [PDF]

open access: yesSpectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular Spectroscopy, 1971
In accordance with theoretical expectations, 4 bands are generally observed in the i.r. spectrum of a number of cubic normal II-III spinels. The systematic investigation of pure compounds, solid solutions and isotopic species leads to a realistic and ...

A novel synthesis route for high surface area spinels using ion exchanged zeolites as precursors

open access: yesMicroporous and Mesoporous Materials, 2001
Transition metal spinels with particle sizes in the nanometer range crystallize from transition metal exchanged zeolites during calcination. The spinels are covered by an amorphous silica which prohibits access to the surface of the spinel particles ...

Slag erosion of spinel and spinel — Periclase refractories

Refractories, 1975
The physicochemical conversions of spinel-periclase refractories by the action of the penetrating slag melt consist of the ferrous component of the slag being absorbed by the periclase and spinels and being distributed between them in the form of solid solutions while the lime -silicate part of the melt reacts with the periclase and spinels to form ...

Combustion CVD of magnesium spinel and nickel spinel

Surface and Coatings Technology, 1997
Combustion chemical vapor deposition (combustion CVD) is being developed to deposit magnesium spinel, MgAl 2 O 4 , and nickel spinel, NiAl 2 O 4 , onto silica substrates. A possible use of the magnesium spinel is as an overlayer on thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) used in the hot sections of gas turbines.

Magnesia–spinel microcomposites

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2004
Abstract This study used a model system of fully dense high purity MgO, incorporating micron size spinel prepared by hot-pressing. Spinel powder was obtained from two sources: (i) 0.5 μm alumina powder was incorporated into MgO by in situ reaction, and (ii) preformed 3 μm spinel powder.

Tilting structures in spinels

Acta Crystallographica Section A Foundations of Crystallography, 2012
The possible distortions in the spinel structure resulting from rotation of the tetrahedra and octahedra have been investigated by a group-theoretical method. The possibility of the existence of 28 phases of rotation of the tetrahedra and five phases of rotation of the octahedra has been shown.

Spinel and Spinels

1991
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the crystal structure and mechanism for structural distortion of spinels. Spinels are materials that crystallize with a structure related to that of the mineral MgAl2O4, which is known as spinel. The gross features of the spinel structure may be most easily visualized as a nearly close-packed cubic array of ...

Production and testing of periclase-spinel parts with fused spinel

Refractories, 1993
Ladle and roof parts with use of fused spinel from bauxite and periclase were produced on a semiproduction basis. It was shown that the parts have good service properties. Service tests showed the effectiveness of periclase-spinellide type parts.
