Dynamic stability and network constrained optimal spinning reserve allocation
2011 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting, 2011This paper presents an integrated work for regulation reserve allocation considering dynamic stability and load variations. In deregulated power system, participants compete to maximize their surplus without considering system stability margin, which forces the power system to operate closer to their instability boundaries.

Gaming Analysis in Joint Energy and Spinning Reserve Markets
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2007Summary form only given. This study concentrates on the strategic interaction among suppliers in a centralized market where electrical energy and spinning reserve are simultaneously traded. A bilevel optimization technique and a mathematical program with equilibrium constraints approach are utilized to develop optimal bidding strategy for competitive ...

Optimal dynamic emergency reserve activation using spinning, hydro and demand-side reserves
Frontiers in Energy, 2016This paper proposes an optimal dynamic reserve activation plan after the occurrence of an emergency situation (generator/transmission line outage, load increase or both). An optimal plan is developed to handle the emergency, using the coordinated action of fast and slow reserves, for secure operation with minimum overall cost. It considers the reserves

Spinning and non-spinning reserve allocation for stochastic security constrained unit Commitment
2014 Power Systems Computation Conference, 2014This paper proposes a formulation for a stochastic security constrained unit commitment, dispatch and reserve scheduling, considering N-1 security and non-spinning reserves. We employ a randomized optimization technique that is based on scenario generation of the uncertain variables, in this case the wind power, and offers probabilistic certificates ...

This paper presents part of a more extensive work to solve the equilibrium point between the spinning reserve margin and the load shedding scheme as a consequence of generation failure so as to compensate economical transfers between generators and consumers. This paper analyses the effect of generation failures for different reserve levels considering

The Effect of Rapid Start and Hot Reserve Units In Spinning Reserve Studies
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1972The application of probability methods to the determination of generating capacity spinning reserve requirements has been illustrated in several publications (1,2,3). The basic difference between a static capacity reserve study and a spinning reserve study is in the time period considered. The basic statistics in the first case are the probabilities of

Demand side participation can significantly affects the energy and Spinning Reserve (SR) markets operation. Generally, the consumers can participate in energy and SR markets by offering their Interruptible Loads (ILs) and demand-side reserves respectively. In this paper a developed joint day-ahead energy and SR markets clearing model is presented.

Spinning reserve cost evaluation considering demand response effect
2012 International Conference on Systems and Informatics (ICSAI2012), 2012In power system, spinning reserve is one of the important indicators of power system security. Regarding spinning reserve as an important factor, spinning reserve cost has been appropriated highly. This paper proposes a method for decreasing spinning reserve cost using demand respond (DR) program.

Spinning reserve optimization using reliability constrained unit commitment
TENCON 2015 - 2015 IEEE Region 10 Conference, 2015Maintaining an appropriate amount of spinning reserve (SR) is a necessary condition to keep the reliable operation of power systems. In this paper, a probabilistic method is proposed to determine the optimal SR amount where the reliability levels are well kept. The SR amount is optimized through a reliability constrained unit commitment (RCUC).

Demand response impact on spinning reserve optimum scheduling
2011 10th International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering, 2011The possibility of employing the demand response in the electricity market environment can lead to an improvement on the power system reliability and unit's production scheduling. To inquire these concepts, two scenarios are defined to schedule day-ahead energy and spinning reserve market simultaneously based on deterministic criteria.
