Bilateral vascularized rib grafts to promote spinopelvic fixation in patients with sacral agenesis and spinopelvic dissociation: a new surgical technique

Spine Journal, 2015
Sacral agenesis is a rare congenital disorder that may have spinopelvic instability due to sacroiliac joint malformation. Surgical indication in patients with sacral agenesis is to improve their sitting balance and protect the visceral organs. Achieving solid arthrodesis across this congenital malformation is challenging and prone to non-union.The ...

Pelvic Ring Injuries and Spinopelvic Dissociation

open access: closed
(1) Pelvic ring injuries can present in numerous variations of patterns and in the extent of skeletal and soft tissue injuries. (2) The complex pelvic osseous structure and surrounding soft tissues require a thorough understanding of pelvic anatomy to optimize treatments and minimize complications.

Biomechanical Analysis of a Modified Triangular Osteosynthesis Technique for Treatment of Spinopelvic Dissociation

open access: closedJournal of Orthopaedic Trauma
OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the biomechanical stability of a modified triangular osteosynthesis construct with S1 pedicle screws compared with other described lumbopelvic fixation constructs in a U-type sacral fracture model.

Spinopelvic Dissociation: Assessment, Reduction Strategies, and Fixation Techniques

Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, 2020
Spinopelvic dissociation is a rare injury associated with 2% to 3% of transverse sacral fractures and 3% of sacral fractures associated with pelvic ring injuries. When spinopelvic dissociation is expediently identified and treated appropriately, patient outcomes can be maximized, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.

Management of traumatic spinopelvic dissociations: review of the literature

European Journal of Trauma and Emergency Surgery, 2012
Spinopelvic dissociation is a rare high-energy injury pattern in adults associated with high morbidity and an increased rate of neurological deficits. The purpose of this article is the conception of fracture type-associated treatment recommendations. This article is based on our own experience with spinopelvic dissociations and a review of the current ...

Minimally Traumatic Spinopelvic Dissociation With Prolonged Bisphosphonate Use

Orthopedics, 2016
Bisphosphonates have become the first-line treatment for diseases involving excessive osteoclast-mediated bone resorption. However, evidence suggests that elevated doses or prolonged treatment may impair normal skeletal mineralization and may be associated with fractures.

Spinopelvic Dissociation: A Retrospective Case Study and Review of Treatment Controversies

Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, 2018
Introduction: Spinopelvic dissociation is a rare injury resulting in discontinuity between the spine and pelvis. We review the English- language literature and discuss critical treatment controversies. We present a series of spinopelvic dissociation cases from a level I trauma center. Methods:
