Morphology and biology of Polydora hoplura Claparède, 1868 (Annelida: Spionidae)

Polydora hoplura Claparède, 1868 is one of the largest species among congeners, attaining 6 cm in length and 2 mm in width for more than 200 chaetigers. It is a harmful shell-borer unintentionally transported with objects of aquaculture across the world.

New Prionospio and Laubieriellus (Annelida: Spionidae) species from Southeastern Brazil

Two new Prionospio species—Prionospio solisi sp. nov. and Prionospio nonatoi sp. nov. and a new Laubieriellus species—Laubieriellus decapitata sp. nov. are described from Espírito Santo Basin, Southeast Brazil. For both Prionospio species, branchial pattern differed from the genus diagnosis, which is therefore emended.

A New Species of the Spionidae (Polychaeta) with Asexual Reproduction Associated with Sponges

Polydorella smurovi sp.n. is described from an underwater coral bank near the Dachlak Archipelago (Red Sea). This new species has alternating sexual and asexual (paratomy) reproduction, short caruncle, specialised broom‐like setae on segment 5 and capillary setae in the neuropodia of the same segment.

The annual somatic production ofPrionospio caspersi Laubier was estimated, between July 1986 and 1987, at a sandy shallow-bottom station in the area facing the Po River Delta, Italy, where this species is one of the most abundant. Primary recruitment occurs in summer, and maturation of gametes the following spring.

Polydora and related genera (Polychaeta: Spionidae) from the Grand Caribbean region
