Spiral acquisition schemes offer unique advantages such as flow compensation, efficient k-space sampling and robustness against motion that make this option a viable choice among other non-Cartesian sampling schemes. For this reason, the main applications of spiral imaging lie in dynamic magnetic resonance imaging such as cardiac imaging and functional

Thin vertical leaves often manifest twist. Perhaps the most prominent example of this is in Typha sp., but such twist is also apparent in Narcissus, Pancratium and many other genera. Such a blade is often referred to as a "spiral leaf". We will indicate the mechanical advantage afforded to the leaf by this arrangement, i.e.

We present a surprising modification of optical interferometry. A so-called spiral phase element in the beam path of a standard microscope results in an interferogram of phase samples, for which the interference fringes have the shape of spirals instead of closed contour lines as in traditional interferograms.

AbstractSpiral wave patterns in chemical reactions and their dynamics have received a lot of interest in the past few years, from the experimental and from the theoretical side. We review some of the recent mathematical results addressing a bifurcation theoretic approach to meandering and drifting tip motions.

Spiral patterns, spiral breakup, and zigzag spirals in an optical device
Physical Review E, 2005Above the first lasing threshold the degenerate optical parametric oscillator with saturable absorber displays successive Hopf and Turing instabilities. Various spiral patterns and defect turbulent patterns are numerically observed on the light intensity profiles.
