Large Spiral Bevel and Hypoid Gears

Transactions of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 1929
Abstract The paper deals with recent developments in the manufacture of large bevel and hypoid gears, the principal subjects being: 1 Large bevel gears of greatly improved running qualities due (a) to generating instead of planing the teeth, and (b) to the use of spiral teeth instead of straight teeth; 2 A ...

COMPLEX DYNAMICS OF SPIRAL BEVEL GEARS

2023
Spiral bevel gears are used for developing silent power transmissions where shafts are non-parallel; moreover, they allow more freedom in allocating the drive motors to reduce the space. Bevel gears are used in different engineering fields, e.g., aerospace, terrestrial vehicles, heavy industries. For high-speed gearboxes using spiral bevel gears (SBGs)

New Geometry of Generating Spiral Bevel Gear

Volume 7: 10th International Power Transmission and Gearing Conference, 2007
New geometry of generating spiral bevel gear is proposed. The key idea of the new proposed geometry is that the gear tooth surface geometry can be investigated in a developed curved surface based on the planar engagement principle. It is proved that the profile curve on the back of generating cone surface is a conical involute curve.

Industrial Applications of Spiral Bevel Gears and Hypoid Gears

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1938
Abstract The paper includes a definition of terms and a general comparison of spiral bevel gears and hypoid gears with other types. The features and advantages peculiar to each type are discussed as are also tooth-contact conditions, elements of good and bad design, the importance of accurate mounting and assembling, size range and ...

Lattice Contact In Generated Spiral Bevel Gears

Journal of Mechanical Design, 1978
The tooth surfaces of generated spiral bevel gears are composed of a large number of flats, or facets, spaced so closely that substantially smooth surfaces result. In the simplest form of such gears, having constant-depth teeth, these facets on each member coincide in direction as the gears mesh together. For the more common case of teeth with tapering

A Static and Dynamic Model of Spiral Bevel Gears

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2011
Two three-dimensional lumped parameter dynamic models of spiral bevel gears are presented and compared. The first approach is classic and relies on a single averaged mesh stiffness element connecting the gears whereas a time-varying non-linear distribution of discrete stiffness elements over the potential contact area is used in the second model.

Decision fusion analysis detects spiral bevel gear damage

IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Magazine, 2003
A diagnostic tool for detecting damage to spiral bevel gears was developed. Two different monitoring technologies - oil debris analysis and vibration were integrated using data fusion into a health monitoring system for detecting surface fatigue pitting damage on gears.

Helical, Spiral, Worm and Bevel Gears

2011
Cut a paper into the shape of a parallelogram and wrap it around a cylinder. The edge of the paper makes an angle ψb called the base helix angle. When you unwrap the paper, keeping it tight, so that it is tangential to the cylinder, see Figure 7.1, you are generating several involute profiles placed side by side starting from a line inclined at the base

The Contact Stress Analysis of Spiral Bevel Gear

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
In this paper I make use of the gridding function of ANSYS establish spiral bevel gear mesh model firstly. Then I transform the date of the meshing model and input then into the ANSYS. After assembly and structural expansion, I use the model to do the contact stress analysis of the spiral bevel gear.Through this,I obtain the distribution and changes of ...
