Spiral Galaxies as Progenitors of Pseudobulge Hosting S0s [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We present observations of pseudobulges in S0 and spiral galaxies using imaging data taken with the Spitzer Infra-Red Array Camera. We have used 2-d bulge-disk-bar decomposition to determine structural parameters of 185 S0 galaxies and 31 nearby spiral galaxies. Using the Sersic index and the position on the Kormendy diagram to classify their bulges as

Analysis of carbohydrates and glycoconjugates by matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry: An update for 2021–2022

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, Volume 44, Issue 3, Page 213-453, May/June 2025.
Abstract The use of matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry for the analysis of carbohydrates and glycoconjugates is a well‐established technique and this review is the 12th update of the original article published in 1999 and brings coverage of the literature to the end of 2022.

Dual and spatially resolved drought responses in the Arabidopsis leaf mesophyll revealed by single‐cell transcriptomics

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 246, Issue 3, Page 840-858, May 2025.
Summary Drought stress imposes severe challenges on agriculture by impacting crop performance. Understanding drought responses in plants at a cellular level is a crucial first step toward engineering improved drought resilience. However, the molecular responses to drought are complex as they depend on multiple factors, including the severity of drought,

Application of the global modal approach to spiral galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2005
We have tested the applicability of the global modal approach in the density wave theory of spiral structure for a sample of six spiral galaxies: NGC 488, NGC 628, NGC 1566, NGC 2985, NGC 3938 and NGC 6503. The galaxies demonstrate a variety of spiral patterns from the regular open and tightly wound spiral patterns to a multi-armed spiral structure ...

The Magnetosphere‐Ionosphere‐Ground Responses to the May 2024 Super Solar Storm

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 23, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract Earth suffered the attack of the strongest geomagnetic storm in the last 20 years (Kp = 9, Dst∼ ${\sim} $ −400 nT) occurred on 11 May 2024. Taking advantage of the LEO multi‐parameter CSES satellite (launched in 2018) with a large inclination angle 97° $97{}^{\circ}$, with the joint observations of NOAA and GOES, we present a comprehensive ...

The Impacts of Bars, Spirals, and Bulge Size on Gas-phase Metallicity Gradients in MaNGA Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
As galaxies evolve over time, the orbits of their constituent stars are expected to change in size and shape, moving stars away from their birth radius. Radial gas flows are also expected. Spiral arms and bars in galaxies are predicted to help drive this

Are Passive Spiral Galaxies truly 'passive' and 'spiral'?: a Near-Infrared perspective [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2005
Passive spiral galaxies - unusual galaxies with spiral morphologies but without any sign of on-going star formation - have recently been shown to exist preferentially in cluster infalling regions. This discovery directly connects passive spiral galaxies to cluster galaxy evolution studies, such as the Butcher-Oemler effect or the morphology-density ...

SpArcFiRe: morphological selection effects due to reduced visibility of tightly winding arms in distant spiral galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The Galaxy Zoo has provided morphological data on many galaxies. Several biases have been identified in the Galaxy Zoo data. Here we report on a newly discovered selection effect: astronomers interested in studying spiral galaxies may select a set of spiral galaxies based upon a threshold in spirality (the fraction of Galaxy Zoo humans who report ...

Multi‐Source Forecast of Solar Cycle Flare Activity Using the Novel Informer‐Based Models

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 23, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract Solar flares, the significant indicators of solar activity, have an impact on Earth's satellites and communication systems. Accurate prediction of solar flare events is crucial for mitigating these effects. In this work, we use multiple data sources, including Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites soft X‐ray flare flux and the ...
