Among the most important ways to investigate galaxies' distribution over cosmic time is the luminosity function LF in terms of baryonic disc mass ψS(Mb), magnitude .

Based on SDSS data, we have selected a sample of nine edge-on spiral galaxies with bulges whose major axes show a high inclination to the disk plane. Such objects are called polar-bulge galaxies.

Very large spiral galaxies [PDF]
As a first step in the systematic study of large spirals, which may be useful in cosmological tests and studies of galaxy evolution, a catalog of the 107 largest known spiral galaxies is presented. Catalog galaxies have isophotal diameters greater than 90 kpc, assuming an H(zero) value of 50 km/sec per Mpc.

We study X-ray to K-band luminosity ratios (L_X/L_K) of late-type galaxies in the 0.3-0.7 keV energy range. From the Chandra archive, we selected nine spiral and three irregular galaxies with point source detection sensitivity better than 5 x 10^36 erg/s

The Schmidt Law at High Molecular Densities
We have combined Halpha and recent high resolution CO(J=1-0) data to consider the quantitative relation between gas mass and star formation rate, or the so-called Schmidt law in nearby spiral galaxies at regions of high molecular density.

Outskirts of spiral galaxies [PDF]
AbstractI present an overview of the recent star formation activity in the outer disks of spiral galaxies, from the observational standpoint, with emphasis on the gas content, the star formation law, the metallicity and the stellar populations.

Conditions for Bar Formation in Bulgeless Disk Galaxies
While bars are commonly observed in disk galaxies, the precise conditions governing their formation remain incompletely understood. To investigate these conditions, we perform a suite of N -body simulations of bulgeless disk galaxies with stellar masses ...

Luminous Infrared Galaxies in the Local Universe
We study the morphology and star formation properties of 159 local luminous infrared galaxy (LIRG) using multi-color images from Data Release 2 (DR2) of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). The LIRGs are selected from a cross-correlation analysis between
