Are EMS bypass policies effective implementation strategies for intravenous alteplase for stroke?

open access: yesImplementation Science Communications, 2020
Background Stroke is a leading cause of disability and the fifth leading cause of death in the USA. Intravenous alteplase is a highly effective clot-dissolving stroke treatment that must be given in a hospital setting within a time-sensitive window.

Numerical simulation of the boundary layer development behind a single quarter elliptic-wedge spire

open access: yesJournal of Mechanical Engineering and Sciences, 2023
For decades wind tunnel has been utilized to generate a quasi-atmospheric boundary layer to observe the wake flow around objects submerged within the Atmospheric Boundary Layer.

Spire and Formin 2 synergize and antagonize in regulating actin assembly in meiosis by a ping-pong mechanism.

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2014
In mammalian oocytes, three actin binding proteins, Formin 2 (Fmn2), Spire, and profilin, synergistically organize a dynamic cytoplasmic actin meshwork that mediates translocation of the spindle toward the cortex and is required for successful ...

Narrative review of the role of inflammation in gastroesophageal reflux disease. Can food allergies play a part?

open access: yesLifestyle Medicine, 2021
Acid suppression is the accepted treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease, despite being ineffective in one third of patients. Certain conditions presenting as reflux may later be attributed to food allergy (infant cow's milk allergy; eosinophilic ...

The Influence of the Signal-to-Noise Ratio upon Radio Occultation Retrievals

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
We study the dependence of radio occultation (RO) inversion statistics on the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). We use observations from four missions: COSMIC, COSMIC-2, METOP-B, and Spire.

Inverse Identification of Energy‐Dependent Laser Absorptivity in NiTi Laser Powder‐Bed Fusion via Calibrated Melt Pool Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined experimental–computational framework identifies energy‐dependent laser absorptivity for NiTi in laser powder‐bed fusion, applicable to conduction and transition modes. Single‐track experiments and thermofluid smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations are coupled through inverse analysis of melt pool geometry.
