To SPIRE or not to SPIRE-that is the question!
Proceedings 23rd Euromicro Conference New Frontiers of Information Technology - Short Contributions -, 2002In this paper, we describe the motives for software process improvement in small and very small companies. We then discuss the need for government support and give an initial view on the European project SPIRE (Software Process Improvement in Regions of Europe), which is just beginning.

Dynamic binary translation system must perform an address translation for every execution of indirect branch instructions. The procedure to convert Source binary Program Counter (SPC) address to Translated Program Counter (TPC) address always takes more than 10 instructions, becoming a major source of performance overhead.

In this demo, we will show the implementation of a content-based SPatial Image Retrieval Engine (SPIRE) for multimodal unstructured data. This architecture provides a framework for retrieving multi-modal data including image, image sequence, time series and parametric data from large archives.

Clinics in Dermatology
We are pleased to introduce in this issue of Clinics in Dermatology a new section entitled "Art in Dermatology," which explores the interface between the visual arts and dermatology. This contribution focuses on the architectural structure known as a church spire that sits atop a church tower and has lent its name to a dermatologic sign.

Abstract In the latter half of the nineteenth century, especially between 1859 and 1872, Union officers and enlisted men, scientists and explorers, artists and writers traveled westward. Surveyors appraised and mapped; expeditionary members explored and then wrote, hoping to convey the wonders they had witnessed.
