Macrophage Activation and Functions during Helminth Infection: Recent Advances from the Laboratory Mouse

open access: yesJournal of Immunology Research, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
Macrophages are highly plastic innate immune cells that adopt an important diversity of phenotypes in response to environmental cues. Helminth infections induce strong type 2 cell‐mediated immune responses, characterized among other things by production of high levels of interleukin‐ (IL‐) 4 and IL‐13.

First report of Gongylonema sp. in a free ranging callitrichid from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest: case report

open access: yesArquivo Brasileiro de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia
This is the first report of parasitism by Gongylonema sp. in a free-ranging callitrichid from the Atlantic forest of Espírito Santo, Brazil. A juvenile male of Geoffroy's marmoset (Callithrix geoffroyi) was euthanized due to poor prognosis, then ...

Molecular and ultrastructure characterization of two nematodes (Thelandros scleratus and Physalopteroides dactyluris) based on ribosomal and mitochondrial DNA sequences

open access: yesHelminthologia, 2016
The phylogenetic relationships of the nematode species Thelandros scleratus (Oxyurida: Pharyn-godonidae) and Physalopteroides dactyluris (Spirurida: Physalopteridae) were analyzed using the ribosomal 18S rRNAand the mitochondrial cytochrome C oxidase ...

Endoparasites in birds of Guaribas Biological Reserve, Atlantic Forest, Paraíba state, Brazil

open access: yesCiência Animal Brasileira, 2018
This paper describes the findings on endoparasites in Atlantic forest birds at Guaribas Biological Reserve, Paraíba State, Northeast of Brazil. We captured 151 birds with mist nets in ten field expeditions between July 2010 and June 2011 and studied bird

Dirofilaria immitis Infection and First Molecular Characterization in Domestic Dogs From Areas of Northwest Mexico

open access: yesJournal of Parasitology Research, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Dirofilaria immitis is a parasitic nematode of veterinary importance and zoonotic risk that has been reported in central and southern states of México, as a parasite of domestic and wild dogs. However, in the northwestern area of the country, its presence and prevalence are unknown.

Three cases of imported eyeworm infection in dogs: a new threat for the United Kingdom

open access: yesVeterinary Record, Volume 181, Issue 13, Page 346-346, September 2017., 2017
In July 2016 we described the first known case of canine ocular thelaziosis in the UK in a dog recently imported from Romania. Here we confirm our initial diagnosis using PCR followed by sequence analysis, and we report a further two clinical cases in dogs with recent history of travel to Italy and France.

The complete mitochondrial genome of parasitic nematode Camallanus cotti: extreme discontinuity in the rate of mitogenomic architecture evolution within the Chromadorea class

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2017
Background Complete mitochondrial genomes are much better suited for the taxonomic identification and phylogenetic studies of nematodes than morphology or traditionally-used molecular markers, but they remain unavailable for the entire Camallanidae ...

Wildlife health risk analysis for conservation translocation: A scalable approach illustrated for wader population restoration

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 7, Issue 9, September 2025.
We present a methodological framework for health risk analysis (disease risk analysis) for conservation translocation that enables the process to be scaled and adapted to the project context. We illustrate its application to two wader (shorebird) population restoration projects with differing translocation plans.

Checklists of Parasites of Farm Fishes of Babylon Province, Iraq

open access: yesJournal of Parasitology Research, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
Literature reviews of all references concerning the parasitic fauna of fishes in fish farms of Babylon province, middle of Iraq, showed that a total of 92 valid parasite species are so far known from the common carp (Cyprinus carpio), the grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella), and the silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) as well as from three ...
