ON THE NEMATODE GENUS RHABDOCHONA RAILLIET, 1916 (NEMATODA: SPIRUROIDEA)

UNUSUAL FINDING OF ENCAPSULATED NEMATODE LARVAE (SPIRUROIDEA) IN BARTRAMIA LONGICAUDA AND NUMENIUS AMERICANUS(CHARADRIIFORMES) IN WESTERN CANADA

Third-stage spiruroid larvae were found encapsulated on the serosa of the small and large intestines and in the mesentery of one of 15 adult upland sandpipers (Bartramia longicauda) from Manitoba, Canada, and three of 18 adult long-billed curlews (Numenius americanus) from Alberta, Canada.

The pathological effects of infections of Dlspharynx nasuta (Nematoda: Acuariidae) on confined, experiment ally-infected chicks of the blue grouse, Dendragapus obscurus, have been studied. The severity of the infection was found to be directly proportional to the number of worms present and the youth of the host.

Porcine Spirurids ( Spiruroidea- Ascaropidae) recorded from beetles ( Coleoptera:Scarabaeidae) in Papua New Guinea.

The Scarabaeine beetles Onthophagus iris and 0. ? heurni, collected in association with pig dung near Mount Hagen, and Onthophagus sp from Madang, Papua New Guinea, show O per cent, 69 per cent and 76 per cent infection rates respectively, with first to third stage larvae of the Ascaropidae nematodes Physocephalus sp and Ascarops sp.
