Capturing outlines of generic shapes with cubic B´ezier curves using the Nelder–Mead simplex method [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Numerical Analysis and Optimization, 2019
We design a fast technique for fitting cubic B´ezier curves to the boundary of 2D shapes. The technique is implemented by means of the Nelder–Mead simplex procedure to optimize the control points.

D-splines: Estimating rate schedules using high-dimensional splines with empirical demographic penalties

open access: yesDemographic Research, 2021
Background: High-dimensional parametric models with penalized likelihood functions strike a good balance between bias and variance for estimating continuous age schedules from large samples. The penalized spline (P-spline) approach is particularly useful

Variable degree polynomial splines are Chebyshev splines [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Computational Mathematics, 2011
Variable degree polynomial (VDP) splines have recently proved themselves as a valuable tool in obtaining shape preserving approximations. However, some usual properties which one would expect of a spline space in order to be useful in geometric modeling, do not follow easily from their definition.

Unstructured spline spaces for isogeometric analysis based on spline manifolds

open access: yes, 2015
Based on spline manifolds we introduce and study a mathematical framework for analysis-suitable unstructured B-spline spaces. In this setting the parameter domain has a manifold structure, which allows for the definition of function spaces that have a ...

Cardinal approximation of functions by splines on an interval

open access: yesMathematical Modelling and Analysis, 2009
The cardinal interpolant of functions on the real line by splines is determined by certain formula free of solving large or infinite systems. We apply this formula to functions given on the interval [0,1] introducing special extensions of functions from [

Crossing Scales: Data-Driven Determination of the Micro-scale Behavior of Polymers From Non-homogeneous Tests at the Continuum-Scale

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2022
We propose an efficient method to determine the micro-structural entropic behavior of polymer chains directly from a sufficiently rich non-homogeneous experiment at the continuum scale.

Changes in Immune‐Inflammation Status and Acute Ischemic Stroke Prognosis in Prospective Cohort

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Inflammation is a critical risk factor for poor outcomes in cerebral infarction. Prior studies focused primarily on baseline inflammation status, neglecting dynamic longitudinal changes. We try to investigate the association between immune‐inflammation status alterations and stroke prognosis, and evaluated three systemic biomarkers'

Degenerate matrices methods by splines for boundary values problems of ordinary differential equations

open access: yesMathematical Modelling and Analysis, 2005
A method for numerical solving of boundary values problems of ordinary differential equations based on the use of splines and differentiation matrices with nodes as zeroes of classical orthogonal polynomials is considered. Possibilities of the method are

THB-splines: The truncated basis for hierarchical splines [PDF]

open access: yesComputer Aided Geometric Design, 2012
The construction of classical hierarchical B-splines can be suitably modified in order to define locally supported basis functions that form a partition of unity. The authors show that this property can be obtained by reducing the support of basis functions defined on coarse grids, according to finer levels in the hierarchy of splines.
