Effects of Splitter Blades on Deep Well Pump Performance

open access: yesJournal of Energy Resources Technology, Transactions of the ASME, 2007
Impellers with splitter blades have been used in turbomachinery design for both pumps and compressors. Increasing the number of blades increases the head of the pump, however, it causes a decrease in efficiency due to the blockage effect of the blade thickness and friction.

Energy saving in a deep well pump with splitter blade

open access: yesEnergy Conversion and Management, 2006
Abstract Design parameters, like blade number, blade outlet angle and impeller outlet diameter, affect pump performance and energy consumption. Deep well pumps with splitter blades (DWPwsb) are manufactured to achieve energy saving and improve efficiency. Splitter blades are generally located at the centerline of the main blades.

3D Inverse Method for Turbomachine Blading With Splitter Blades

Volume 1: Aircraft Engine; Marine; Turbomachinery; Microturbines and Small Turbomachinery, 2000
The use of a full 3D and viscous inverse method for turbomachine blading with splitter blades is demonstrated by carrying out a design modification of a transonic axial stator blade row with splitter blades. In this design modification study, the goal is to improve the aerodynamics of the full blade and the splitter blade, including weakening of shock ...

Passive Control of Flow Induced Vibrations by Splitter Blades

Volume 2: Combustion and Fuels; Oil and Gas Applications; Cycle Innovations; Heat Transfer; Electric Power; Industrial and Cogeneration; Ceramics; Structures and Dynamics; Controls, Diagnostics and Instrumentation; IGTI Scholar Award, 1993
Splitter blades as a passive control technique for flow induced vibrations is investigated by developing an unsteady aerodynamic model to predict the effect of incorporating splitter blades into the design of an axial flow blade row operating in an incompressible flow field.

Short Ducted Fan Diffusers With Integral Splitter Blades

Volume 13C: Turbomachinery — Deposition, Erosion, Fouling, and Icing; Design Methods and CFD Modeling for Turbomachinery; Ducts, Noise, and Component Interactions, 2023
Abstract To maximise the range of vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft, the hover efficiency of ducted fan propulsors should be optimised. Diffusers at the outlet of ducted fans increase thrust, for a given power input, by converting otherwise wasted kinetic energy into a static pressure rise.

Design Optimization of a Centrifugal Fan with Splitter Blades

International Journal of Turbo & Jet-Engines, 2015
AbstractMulti-objective optimization of a centrifugal fan with additionally installed splitter blades was performed to simultaneously maximize the efficiency and pressure rise using three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations and hybrid multi-objective evolutionary algorithm.

Influences of Splitter Blades on the Centrifugal Fan Performances

Volume 1: Turbomachinery, 1989
Centrifugal fan and compressors with splitter blades are widely utilized in engineering practices. A detail investigation of the influences of splitter blades on a forward-curved centrifugal fan performances is presented in the paper. The study includes two parts: experiment and numerical calculation.

A Blade-to-Blade Solution of the Flow in a Centrifugal Compressor Impeller with Splitters

Journal of Engineering for Power, 1980
The matrix through flow analysis is used to predict the blade-to-blade flow in a centrifugal compressor impeller which contains splitters (half vanes). The presence of solid boundaries in the flow field and the stagnation points associated with it are treated by assuming that the flow around the stagnation point is isentropic.

Splitter Blades for Passive Turbomachine Flutter Control

1993
Splitter blades as a passive flutter control technique is investigated by developing a mathematical model to predict the stability of an aerodynamically loaded splattered-rotor operating in an incompressible flow field. The splitter blades, positioned circumferentially in the flow passage between two principal blades, introduce aerodynamic and/or ...

Design of Curved Annular Diffusers II: Using Splitter Blades

Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, 2022
Abstract The use of splitter blade as a passive flow control mechanism in the design of separation free aggressive annular diffuser is explored through computational fluid dynamics simulations. The fundamental working principle of a splitter blade in case of a two-dimensional rectangular diffuser and an annular diffuser is discussed. The
