An Epicoccum fungus was isolated from gut of larvae of the butterfly Dione juno juno that feeds intensively on leaves of Passifloras. This fungus produces hydroxyanthraquinones that moderately inhibits growth of some Bacillus that coexist with the fungus in the insect gut, suggesting that it is probably important for microbial embalance in gut flora ...

EFFECTS OF CERTAIN INSECTICIDES ON EGGS OF SPODOPTERA LITTORALIS [PDF]
Seven chemical insecticides were tested for their ovicidal activity against Spodoptera littoralis eggs, using two methods, namely dipping of tafla leaves containing 0-1 day old eggs and o-day old eggs were deposited on insecticide residues on tafla leaves. Rynaxypyr was the most promising. It was taken as the standard insecticide and given an arbitrary

The insecticidal potential of formulations based on Salvia officinalis, Ormenis africana, and Mentha pulegium essential oils was investigated against Myzus persicae. The combination of the three oils provided the most effective control, showing strong activity in laboratory assays and greenhouse trials.

A comparison of the TC10™ automated cell counter and the hemocytometer for quantifying insect hemocytes. [PDF]
Hemocytes are an essential component of the invertebrate innate immune system (Strand 2008). Their close similarities to vertebrate white blood cells enable their use as a tractable model for immunological research. The quantification of hemocytes in the

ABSTRACT The overuse of synthetic pesticides in agriculture has raised significant environmental and health concerns. Biopesticides have emerged as viable, environmentally compatible alternatives. However, recent comprehensive reviews integrating all biopesticide categories and emphasizing their contribution to synthetic‐pesticide‐free and health‐safe ...

Honeybee mushroom bodies (MBs), sites for learning and memory, house two classes of intrinsic neurons: class I and II Kenyon cells (KCs) that form synaptic complexes with boutons of projection neurons (PNs) from primary sensory neuropils. Dendrites of both KC classes were restricted to distinct unimodal MB compartments.
