Premature thoughts on writing disorders [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Three papers appeared in the 19th century describing the dissociation between speech and writing: Marce (1856), Ogle (1867) and Pitres (1884). An account of the convincing evidence of dissociations put forward in these papers is presented.

Cerebral lateralisation during signed and spoken language production in children born deaf

open access: yesDevelopmental Cognitive Neuroscience, 2019
The effect of sensory experience on hemispheric specialisation for language production is not well understood. Children born deaf, including those who have cochlear implants, have drastically different perceptual experiences of language than their ...

Model of the Classification of English Vowels by Spanish Speakers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
A number of models of single language vowel classification based on formant representations have been proposed. We propose a new model that explicitly predicts vowel perception by second language (L2) learners based on the phonological map of their ...

Selection Strategies for Flexible Pressure Sensor Electrode Materials Toward Ultrafast Response

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study reveals, for the first time, how the electrode–organic interface governs the temporal performance of flexible pressure sensors. By pairing high‐conductivity CVD PEDOT with commonly used metal electrodes, the authors demonstrate that interfacial energy alignment dictates microsecond‐scale response, providing a straightforward design strategy ...

Contact Lens with Moiré Patterns for High‐Precision Eye Tracking

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a passive contact lens for high‐precision eye tracking, integrating a microscopic moiré grating label. The parallax‐induced shift of macroscopic moiré patterns enables angle measurement with 0.28° precision using a standard camera under ambient light.
