Use of Spoligotype Analysis to Detect Laboratory Cross-Contamination

Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology, 2000
Spoligotype analysis identified false-positive isolates ofMycobacterium tuberculosiscaused by laboratory cross-contamination. Spoligotyping is faster, is less expensive than DNA fingerprinting, and can be used with a variety of media. Patients were reevaluated and had medications discontinued as a result of this investigation.

Markov Models to Classify M. tuberculosis Spoligotypes

21st International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops (AINAW'07), 2007
In this paper we use Markov Models to classify automatically spoligotypes. A spoligotype is a sequence of 43 binary values provided by a DNA analysis technique. These methods, robust and well adapted to sequential data, allow us to generate a model on the basis of probabilities, calculated directly on the observations. We use these techniques to create

IS6110-RFLP and Spoligotyping of Mycobacterium tuberculosis Isolates in Iran

Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2000
To evaluate and compare the usefulness of IS6110-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) and spoligotyping in the epidemiology of tuberculosis in Iran, Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex strains, isolated in 2 different areas of Iran, were subjected to RFLP and spoligotyping. The average number of IS6110 copies per strain was 11 and ranged from

Spoligotype analysis ofMycobacterium bovisisolates from Northern México

Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 2005
Bovine tuberculosis is still rife in Latin America, producing huge economic losses. There are very few studies of the way this disease is spread through this geographical region, particularly in countries that border those that are almost free of Mycobacterium bovis.

A strip array for spoligotyping of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex isolates

Journal of Microbiological Methods, 2016
A novel strip array was developed for a nine-spacer spoligotyping scheme of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC). The new method was evaluated using 211 MTBC isolates and the results were fully concordant with the traditional spoligotyping approach. The strip array proved to be rapid and convenient for spoligotyping of MTBC.

Spoligotyping of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in anthracotic bronchitis.

The international journal of tuberculosis and lung disease : the official journal of the International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, 2008
Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection has been shown to be associated with anthracotic bronchitis. However, the typical manifestation of infection is not usually present in infected patients, which raises the question of whether a particular strain of M. tuberculosis is associated with this group of patients. To determine whether a particular strain of M.

Spoligotyping for Molecular Epidemiology of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis Complex

2009
Spacer oligonucleotide typing, or spoligotyping, is a rapid, polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based method for genotyping strains of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTB). Spoligotyping data can be represented in absolute terms (digitally), and the results can be readily shared among laboratories, thereby enabling the creation of large ...

Spoligotype diversity of Mycobacterium bovis and Mycobacterium caprae animal isolates

Veterinary Microbiology, 2008
The genetic diversity of 283 Mycobacterium bovis (M. bovis) and 10 Mycobacterium caprae (M. caprae) strains, isolated between 2002 and 2007 from cattle, goat, red deer and wild boar from six different geographical regions of Portugal was investigated by spoligotyping. The technique showed a good discriminatory power (Hunter-Gaston Index, h=0.9) for the

Induction Tree methods to classify M. tuberculosis spoligotypes

2007 IEEE Symposium on Computational Intelligence and Data Mining, 2007
In this paper we compared and analyzed four graph induction methods to automatically classify spoligotypes. A spoligotype is a sequence of 43 binary values provided by a DNA analysis technique. This method is known to be useful and efficient to many supervised learning problems.
