The influences of sponge city construction on spring discharge in Jinan city of China

open access: yesHydrology Research, 2020
In recent years, intense human activities have threatened to dry up the well-known karst springs in Jinan, China. Sponge city construction program was one of the measures aiming to improve the recharge to groundwater and also protect sources of spring ...

Development of a vehicle robotic driver with intelligent control system modelling for automated standard driving-cycle tests [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
New road vehicles are required to undergo several specific tests to meet the requirement set by governing bodies in various markets. These tests are often carried out over specific driving-cycles.

The perceived barriers to the inclusion of rainwater harvesting systems by UK house building companies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This work investigates the barriers that exist to deter the implementation of rainwater harvesting into new UK housing. A postal questionnaire was sent to a selection of large, medium and small house-builders distributed across the UK.

Biomimetic Ion‐Orchestrated Hierarchical Armored Hydrogel Coating for Robust and Multifunctional Surface Protection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by the skin‐toughening mechanism of marine sponges, an ion‐orchestrated structural engineering strategy is proposed to regulate the surface microstructure of hydrogel coatings, enabling the in situ formation of a robust armor layer that enhances mechanical integrity and provides multifunctional protection by suppressing fouling attachment and ...

A flood resilience assessment method of green-grey-blue coupled urban drainage system considering backwater effects

open access: yesEcological Indicators
Currently, the increasing frequency of urban floods—driven by extreme rainfall resulting from climate change, human-induced urbanization, and inadequacies in urban drainage systems—has heightened interest in resilient cities.

Stoma‐Shell Nanoarchitecture for Enhanced Plasma Confinement Catalysis in Synthesis of Ethanol from CO2

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
High‐energy electron impact in plasma catalysis often causes excessive dissociation of active intermediates, limiting C2+ product selectivity. To address this challenge, a bio‐inspired stoma‐shell nanoarchitecture is designed to decouple electron impact from catalytic reaction zones.

Application of Porous Road Materials in Sponge City Construction

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2017
To discuss the application of porous road materials in sponge city construction. The effect of porosity on mechanical properties was observed by an analysis of the porosity and mechanical properties of 5 groups of porous asphalt concrete test pieces at 15℃ and 20℃ respectively and by comparison of porosity and mechanical properties between these 5 ...

From Mechanics to Electronics: Influence of ALD Interlayers on the Multiaxial Electro‐Mechanical Behavior of Metal–Oxide Bilayers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ultrathin AlOxHy interlayers between aluminum films and polymer substrates significantly improve electro‐mechanical properties of flexible thin film systems. By precisely controlling interlayer thickness using atomic layer deposition, this study identifies an optimal interlayer thickness of 5–10 nm that enhances ductility and delays cracking.

Stable water isotopes in soil–plant systems reveals ecohydrological dynamics in a typical flood wetland in the subtropical monsoon region, China

open access: yesEcological Indicators
Water transformation within soil–plant systems is one of the critical aspects that reflects the ecohydrological dynamics. However, it remains limited to understand soil water movement and plant water uptake in wetland ecosystems under changing moisture ...
