Sustainable Strategy to Boost Legumes Growth under Salinity and Drought Stress in Semi-Arid and Arid Regions

open access: yesSoil Systems
The escalating risks of drought and salinization due to climate change and anthropogenic activities are a major global concern. Rhizobium–legume (herb or tree) symbiosis is proposed as an ideal solution for improving soil fertility and rehabilitating ...

ECG with alternating electric axis in relation to left-sided tension pneumothorax: a case report and review of the literature

open access: yesEuropean Clinical Respiratory Journal, 2018
The incidence of spontaneous pneumothorax has been estimated to 7.4–18.0/100,000 for men and 1.2–6.0/100,000 for women. The most common symptoms are sudden chest pain and dyspnoea.

Utilising Spontaneous Conversational Speech in HMM-Based Speech Synthesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Spontaneous conversational speech has many characteristics that are currently not well modelled in unit selection and HMM-based speech synthesis. But in order to build synthetic voices more suitable for interaction we need data that exhibits more ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Spontaneous mid‐trimester uterine rupture associated with fetal death in a young patient during COVID‐19 pandemic: A case report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, 2022
Uterine rupture mostly occurs in the third trimester. However, it may occur at an earlier time with the same catastrophic consequences. The authors present a case report of uterine rupture occurring in the second trimester at 18 weeks gestation.

Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking and Chance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
In this paper I explore the nature of spontaneous symmetry breaking in connection with a cluster of interrelated concepts such as Curie's symmetry principle, chance, and ...

Genetic variation in the interleukin-28B gene is associated with spontaneous clearance and progression of hepatitis C virus in Moroccan patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Genetic variation in the IL28B gene has been strongly associated with treatment outcomes, spontaneous clearance and progression of the hepatitis C virus infection (HCV).

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Bacterial Endophytes from Legumes Native to Arid Environments Are Promising Tools to Improve Mesorhizobium–Chickpea Symbiosis under Salinity

open access: yesBiology
Symbiotic nitrogen fixation is a major contributor of N in agricultural ecosystems, but the establishment of legume–rhizobium symbiosis is highly affected by soil salinity.

Explaining Quantum Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Two alternative accounts of quantum spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB) are compared and one of them, the decompositional account in the algebraic approach, is argued to be superior for understanding quantum SSB.
