New normalization index for spontaneous imbibition

Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2012
Abstract Spontaneous imbibition is of special importance in oil recovery from fractured reservoirs. Laboratory measurements of volume of liquid imbibed versus time are often used in the prediction of oil recovery. Laboratory results of oil recovery through spontaneous imbibition are commonly scaled-up to forecast oil recovery at the reservoir scale ...

Estimation of Imbibition Capillary Pressure Curves from Spontaneous Imbibition Data

Energy & Fuels, 2009
A closed-form solution for calculating imbibition capillary pressure from experimental data has been derived on the basis of the assumption of a constant capillary diffusion coefficient combined with Corey functions for the relative permeability curves. The solution is almost similar to the capillary pressure correlation reported by Skjaeveland et al. (

A General Scaling Method for Spontaneous Imbibition

SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 2002
AbstractScaling the experimental data of spontaneous imbibition without serious limitations has been difficult. To this end, a general approach was developed to scale the experimental data of spontaneous imbibition for most systems (gas-liquid-rock and oil-water-rock systems) in both cocurrent and countercurrent cases.

Spontaneous Imbibition of Fluids in Porous Vycor

Society of Petroleum Engineers Journal, 1974
Abstract The spontaneous imbibition of alkanes and alcohols in pores of 35 radius has been studied. At a rather critical molecular size The pore volume becomes insensitive to the size of imbibing molecule. Darcy's law for transient imbibition kinetics is obeyed, fluid viscosity and surface tension are valid flow ...

Characterization of Spontaneous Water Imbibition into Gas-Saturated Rocks

Proceedings of SPE/AAPG Western Regional Meeting, 2000
Summary A method has been developed to characterize the process of spontaneous water imbibition into gas-saturated rocks. Water relative permeability and capillary pressure can be calculated simultaneously from water imbibition data using this method. A linear relationship between imbibition rate and the reciprocal of the gas recovery by

A New Approach for Specifying Imbibition Face Boundary Condition in Countercurrent Spontaneous Imbibition

Petroleum Science and Technology, 2010
Abstract Countercurrent spontaneous imbibition is one of the basic processes in two-phase fluid flow in fractured porous media. Many researchers have studied modeling of this phenomenon and analytical and numerical solutions have been presented. Specifying the imbibition face (open face) wetting phase saturation, which acts as a boundary condition, has
