Global Law: The Spontaneous, Gradual Emergence of a New Legal Order

open access: yesTilburg Law Review, 2012
This article argues that the debate over whether international law can apply to non-state actors misses the point. The useful distinction is not between rules that regulate the obligations of states and those that regulate the obligations of non-state ...

Analysis of Vaginal Microbiome in Women with or Without Episodes of Spontaneous Abortion in Eastern Nigeria

open access: yesGynecology Obstetrics & Reproductive Medicine, 2023
OBJECTIVES: Spontaneous abortion (miscarriage) is a common adverse pregnancy outcome earth-wide, and has remained a challenge in Nigeria. This study aimed at comparing the vaginal microbiome of women who have had episodes of spontaneous abortion with ...

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

Instability of steady-state mixed-state symmetry-protected topological order to strong-to-weak spontaneous symmetry breaking [PDF]

open access: yesQuantum
Recent experimental progress in controlling open quantum systems enables the pursuit of mixed-state nonequilibrium quantum phases. We investigate whether open quantum systems hosting mixed-state symmetry-protected topological states as steady states ...

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

Accelerated Development of the First-Order Central Auditory Neurons With Spontaneous Activity

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Neuroscience, 2018
In developing sensory systems, elaborate morphological connectivity between peripheral cells and first-order central neurons emerges via genetic programming before the onset of sensory activities.

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

POLYMERIZATION BY INTERACTION α-HALOACRYLIC ACIDS WITH TERTIARY AMINES

open access: yesФизико-химические аспекты изучения кластеров, наноструктур и наноматериалов, 2021
The results of spontaneous polymerization of α-chloroacrylic and α-bromoacrylic acids with tertiary amines at a low temperature are presented. As a result of spontaneous polymerization during the interaction of α-halodacrylic acids with tertiary amines ...
