Spontaneous Pneumoperitoneum in the Newborn
New England Journal of Medicine, 1956IN 1954 a two-day-old infant was admitted to the Rhode Island Hospital with pneumoperitoneum. At operation no abnormality could be found to explain the free air in the peritoneal cavity. The baby recovered without complications. Gastroenterologie clinique et biologique, 1984A spontaneous and asymptomatic pneumoperitoneum was observed in two women presenting with pseudoileus resulting from severe gastrointestinal involvement in progressive systemic sclerosis. In the first case, pneumoperitoneum was associated with pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis and remained unchanged during 3 years.
