Ploidy Study in Sporothrix schenkii
Fungal Genetics and Biology, 1999Sporothrix schenckii is a dimorphic fungus that is pathogenic for humans. No sexual cycle has been reported for this fungus and little is known of its genetic constitution. To inquire into the ploidy state of Sporothrix schenckii, different approaches were followed: DNA content during transition from conidia to yeast, survival to ultraviolet ...

Sporothrix schenkii and Dermatophilus congolensis were isolated from a bull with severe generalized skin lesions. The lesions were thick, crusty and scabby on the dorsal part while few scabby and several nodular lesions were seen on the lower limbs especially the thighs.

The effect of the supernatants obtained from the liquid culture medium of Sporothrix schenkii and Candida albicans on the generation of superoxide anion (O2- and hydroxyl radicals OH., the elements of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and chemoluminescence (CL), a measure of several ROS, by polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) was examined.

Sporothrix schenckii produces two extracellular proteinases, namely proteinase I and II. Proteinase I is a serine proteinase, inhibited by chymostatin, while proteinase II is an aspartic proteinase, inhibited by pepstatin. Studies on substrate specificity and the effect of proteinase inhibitors on cell growth suggest an important role for these ...

[Polysaccharides from "Sporothrix schenkii" (author's transl)].
Annales de microbiologie, 1982The whole cells and purified cell walls of Sporothrix schenckii were extracted with various solvents. Using hydrolysis, the fractions obtained afforded mannose, glucose, rhamnose as main sugars, and galactose. The repartition of polysaccharides was different according to the solvent used.

Presentation of Sporothrix schenkii in pulmonary cytology specimens.
Acta cytologica, 1991Macrophages containing small ovoid intracytoplasmic yeast cells, surrounded by a slight "halo," were observed in Papanicolaou-stained smears of sputum submitted for cytologic examination from two patients with culture-confirmed pulmonary sporotrichosis.
