Acupuncture points can be identified as cutaneous neurogenic inflammatory spots

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Acupuncture, a traditional medical procedure practised for over 2000 years in Asia, stimulates specific but poorly defined sites called acupoints. To date, no unique anatomical acupoint structures have been found.

Variability Profiles of Millisecond X-Ray Pulsars: Results of Pseudo-Newtonian 3D MHD Simulations

open access: yes, 2005
We model the variability profiles of millisecond period X-ray pulsars. We performed three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations of disk accretion to millisecond period neutron stars with a misaligned magnetic dipole moment, using the pseudo ...

A stepwise emergence of evolution in the RNA world

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
How did biological evolution emerge from chemical reactions? This perspective proposes a gradual scenario of self‐organization among RNA molecules, where catalytic feedback on random mixtures plays the central role. Short oligomers cross‐ligate, and self‐assembly enables heritable variations. An event of template‐externalization marks the transition to

Modifications in FLAP's second cytosolic loop influence 5‐LOX interaction, inhibitor binding, and leukotriene formation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The enzyme 5‐lipoxygenase (5‐LOX) catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes (LTs) involved in inflammatory pathophysiology. After cellular stimulation, 5‐LOX translocates to the nucleus, interacting with the 5‐LOX‐activating protein (FLAP) to form LTA4 from arachidonic acid (AA).

Prospects for plasmonic hot spots in single molecule SERS towards the chemical imaging of live cells.

open access: yesPhysical Chemistry, Chemical Physics - PCCP, 2015
Single molecule surface enhanced Raman scattering (SM-SERS) is a highly local effect occurring at sharp edges, interparticle junctions and crevices or other geometries with a sharp nanoroughness of plasmonic nanostructures ("hot spots").

A test of the electromagnetic theory of the hydrogen vortices surrounding sun-spots [PDF]

open access: yes, 1925
The extensive fields of force shown by the spectroheliograph in the hydrogen atmosphere surrounding sun-spots have been explained in two different ways: (1) as true hydrodynamical vortices, resembling great tornadoes, and (2) as electromagnetic phenomena,
