Wall‐to‐bed heat transfer characteristics of spout‐fluid beds

The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1983
AbstractWall‐to‐bed heat transfer characteristics have been investigated in a rectangular spout‐fluid (S–F) bed segment column (20 cm length, 5 cm width and 50 cm height) utilizing glass beads (Dp = 0.254, 0.388 and 0.461 mm) and air as fluid. Results indicate that h values in the S–F bed increase with increasing air mass velocity and particle diameter,

Flow characteristics in a rectangular spout-fluid bed

Powder Technology, 1992
Abstract Hydrodynamic studies are reported on six different materials, spouted and spout-fluidised with air in a column of square cross-section, using nozzles of five different sizes. Correlations for minimum spout-fluidised flow rate in cylindrical columns were investigated for this geometry.

Pressure and flow characteristics of a gas phase spout‐fluid bed and the minimum spout‐fluid condition

The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1974
AbstractSpoutfluidization is a new technique for solid‐fluid contact which aims at incorporating the advantages of spouted bed and fluidized bed technique. The characteristics of physical state of the bed with the variation of the variables which include flow of fluid, particle diameter, orifice diameter, bed height, are studied in this investigation ...

Pressure drop and flowrate characteristics of a liquid phase spout‐fluid bed at the minimum spout‐fluid flowrate

The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1974
AbstractData on the minimum spout‐fluid flowrates and the pressure drop in the annulus at that flowrate are presented as a function of bed height and nozzle diameter for a bed spout‐fluidized with water. The column was 62.6 mm. in diameter and contained 3.09 mm. glass particles. The particle Reynolds number at the minimum fluidizing velocity was 91.6.A

Experimental study of gas mixing in a spout‐fluid bed

AIChE Journal, 2005
AbstractGas mixing in a spout‐fluid bed with a cross section of 0.3 × 0.03 m and height of 2 m was investigated by simultaneously injecting two different tracer gases. One was injected into the spouting gas flow and the other was injected into the fluidizing gas flow.

Spouted and Spout-Fluid Beds

2010
Since the pioneering text by Mathur and Epstein over 35 years ago, much of the work on this subject has been extended or superseded, producing an enormous body of scattered literature. This edited volume unifies the subject, pulling material together and underpinning it with fundamental theory to produce the only complete, up-to-date reference on all ...

Mixing characteristics of binary mixtures in a spout-fluid bed

Particulate Science and Technology, 2016
ABSTRACTMixing characteristics of binary mixtures in a flat-bottom cylindrical spout-fluid bed using glass beads and air are reported in this work. Experiments were carried out to investigate the mixing characteristics for binary mixtures at three flow conditions, i.e., only spouting, only fluidization and spout-fluidization.

Experimental Investigation of Flow Characteristics in a Spout-Fluid Bed

18th International Conference on Fluidized Bed Combustion, 2005
Pressure fluctuation time series were obtained at various bed locations in a spout-fluid bed with its dimension of 300mm × 30mm × 2000mm. Power spectrum and Shannon entropy analyses of pressure fluctuations were developed to characterize the flow characteristics.

Low temperature drying of pomace in spout and spout-fluid beds

Journal of Food Engineering, 2007
The solid residue that originates from virgin olive oil production has a consistency that falls between a paste and a particulate solid, consists of two phases: the crushed olive kernel and the fruit pulp. The kernel particles can be used as high quality solid fuel, while oil can be extracted from the pulp residue.

Coal combustion in spouted and spout-fluid beds

2010
This study of coal combustion was carried out in a half-column spout-fluid bed combustor, in which Forestberg coal, a sub-bituminous Alberta coal, was burned in inert beds of sand. The combustor consists of a half cylindrical stainless steel column of 0.152 m I. D.
