Presence of Echinococcus eggs in the environment and food: a review of current data and future prospects

open access: yesParasitology
Cystic and alveolar echinococcosis are considered the second and third most significant foodborne parasitic diseases worldwide. The microscopic eggs excreted in the feces of the definitive host are the only source of contamination for intermediate and ...

Phylogeny, phylogeography and movement of Kirramyces spp. associated with leaf blight diseases of plantation eucalypts

open access: yes, 2008
When this study commenced in early 2004, only five Phaeophleospora species. had been reported from eucalypts of which only two; P. destructans (STE-U 1336) and P. epicoccoides (STE-U 1346) had been sequenced.

Identification and further characterization of Enterobacteriaceae and Cronobacter spp. in a milk powder and infant processing plant [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Due to technical reasons, milk powder and powdered infant formulae (PIF) are not sterile products. In order to achieve the requirements set by the Swiss and European regulations for microbiologic criteria extensive epidemiological studies are needed on ...

Breaking the Bottleneck in Limit of Detection of Surface Refractive Index Sensing by Harnessing Meta‐Waveguide Microring Resonators

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mode splitting in meta‐waveguide microring resonators (MWMRs) effectively suppresses baseline drift and measurement noise while maintaining high refractive‐index sensitivity. This reflection‐induced mode splitting strategy enables quantitative detection of ultra‐weak surface perturbations and establishes MWMRs as a robust, drift‐immune platform for ...

Data‐Driven Modeling of Composition–Processing–Microstructure Relations for Recycled Aluminum Cast Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Interpretable machine learning reveals how composition and processing govern the formation and microstructural burden of Fe‐rich intermetallic compounds in recycled Al–Si–Fe–Mn alloys. By separating morphology selection from morphology‐conditioned burden partitioning, this framework shows that identical Fe contents can yield different intermetallic ...

“Buying Time” or the Temporal Walls of Neoliberal Capitalism

open access: yesСоциология власти
The article questions the opposition of the concepts of "neoliberalism" and"welfare state". It is more productive to consider them not as mutuallyexclusive alternatives, but as two coexisting regimes of contemporarycapitalism.

Trichoderma spp. in innovative substrates for ornamental plants

open access: yes, 2012
Trichoderma spp. are free-living fungi commonly widespread in soil and root ecosystems. Recent discoveries show them as opportunistic, avirulent plant symbionts as well as parasites of other fungi.

A Cationic Supramolecule With Potent Antifungal Activity, Single‐Species Selectivity, and Strong Synergy With Echinocandins

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We introduce a new membrane‐active antifungal design, Gua‐SMACS‐16, that exhibits high potency and single‐species selectivity for C. tropicalis while sparing other close species in the Candida genus. Moreover, when combining with caspofungin, a clinical antifungal drug inhibiting 1,3‐β‐glucan synthase, they exhibit ultra‐strong synergy across a panel ...

Mechanism‐Informed Machine Learning Enables Discovery of Oncolytic Peptides for Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
MISPOP integrates ensemble learning with membrane‐active physicochemical priors to identify Dermaseptin‐S9, a natural oncolytic peptide that disrupts tumor membranes, triggers immunogenic cell death, and shows strong antitumor activity. The study illustrates a mechanism‐informed route from peptide sequence data to cancer immunotherapy leads.
