Spray combustion theory

Combustion and Flame, 1959
Abstract The coupled steady-state equations of motion of a statistical ensemble of spherical droplets and a coexisting multicomponent reacting gaseous continuum are derived under the assumption that the induced random fluctuations in the properties of the fluid are negligible.

Comparison of droplet combustion models in spray combustion

27th Joint Propulsion Conference, 1991
This study compares the spray combustion characteristics predicted by the above three models with experimental observations resulting from various inlet mean droplet sizes. A simplified combustor, similar to that used for the spray BurkeSchumann diffusion flame, is assumed.

Spray Characterization and Combustion

2009
For charge injection atomization, of electrically insulating liquids, it is typical that a polydisperse drop diameter distribution is present in the spray. It is also typical that the mean trajectories of the drops are a function of the mean drop diameter, and that the smaller drops tend to be found on the spray periphery, and the larger drops nearer ...

Spray Formation and Combustion

1993
Phase-Doppler anemometry is a measuring technique which developed out of laser Doppler anemometry to enable simultaneous measurements of velocity and size of particles whose diameters are larger than or comparable to the fringe spacing in the measuring volume.

Spray combustion simulation

2005
A review is given of single-droplet vaporization models for spray combustion studies. Formulations and numerical methods for the analysis and solution of the two-phase vaporizing and reacting spray problem are discussed. Both one-dimensional and axisymmetric geometries, with and without unsteadiness, are evaluated.

Spray Group Combustion

2010
Starting from a consideration of microscopic flame propagation modes between neighboring droplets and macroscopic flame propagation modes in spray elements, the excitation mechanism of group combustion (diffusion flame enclosing droplets) is described for an example of atomizing liquid fuel jet issuing into an otherwise stagnant oxidizing atmosphere.

Spray combustion diagnostics

2009
Optical, but especially laser techniques, have been largely applied over the past decades to characterize complex multiphase flows. The strength of optical diagnostics lies in the null or limited invasion and the typical high space and time resolution can be achieved also in very hostile combustion environments.
