A Comparative Study of MALDI MSI Versus DESI MSI Applied to Questioned Document Examination

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, Volume 40, Issue 19, 15 October 2026.
ABSTRACT Rationale In forensic investigations, questioned document examination (QDE) provides critical information for document authentication and the detection of forgeries. Conventional QDE approaches often require separate analyses of inks and of any potential fingerprints.

Spray‐Dried Engineered Escherichia coli Whole‐Cell Biocatalysts Enable Cell Recycling and In Vivo α‐Ketoglutarate and NADPH Regeneration for Efficient Codeine Manufacture

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, Volume 123, Issue 10, Page 2629-2642, October 2026.
ABSTRACT A recombinant whole‐cell biocatalytic approach provides several advantages over isolated enzymes, such as improved enzyme stability, in vivo cofactor regeneration, and the facilitation of cascade reactions within a single cell. Whole‐cell biocatalysis has gained attention in medicinal opioid production, due to its technical and economic ...

A Rapid and Sensitive LC–MS/MS Method for Quantification of NDSRI in Melatonin Drug Product via Controlled In Situ Formation

open access: yesBiomedical Chromatography, Volume 40, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Nitrosamine drug substance–related impurities (NDSRIs) pose a significant safety risk due to their mutagenic and carcinogenic potential, prompting strict regulatory oversight under ICH M7. The propensity for in situ formation of NDSRIs during analytical procedures, particularly in active pharmaceutical ingredients containing reactive amines ...

Valorization of Zingiber officinale Roscoe leaf biomass: phytotoxic potential and chemical profiling toward sustainable weed management

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 106, Issue 13, Page 8189-8201, October 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND Zingiber officinale Roscoe is widely cultivated as a spice and functional food, generating substantial amounts of aerial biomass that is commonly discarded after harvest. Within a circular‐economy framework, this study investigated the phytotoxic potential of Z.

DEET‐cyclodextrin inclusion complexes for mosquito and tick repellency: Extended repellency time and no zebrafish embryotoxicity

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 10, Page 9653-9665, October 2026.
Hydroxypropyl‐β‐cyclodextrin (HPβCD)–N,N‐diethyl‐meta‐toluamide (DEET) complex extended tick repellency to 168 h. Full protection against Aedes aegypti for 7 h with HPβCD‐DEET. HPβCD reduced DEET release and skin retention significantly. No embryotoxicity observed below 325 mg L−1 in zebrafish model.

Water‐Derived Radical Species Initiate Six‐Electron Oxidation of Cyclic Ketones in Microdroplets

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 39, 21 September 2026.
Spontaneous six‐electron oxidation of cyclic ketones to yield dicarboxylic acids/keto acids is achieved in ethanol microdroplets containing about 2% water under ambient conditions without any metal salts, acids, or oxidants. Mechanistic studies show that trace amounts of water and molecular oxygen serve as active oxidants in this transformation ...

Three‐Stage Fluid‐Assisted Dual‐Mode Janus E‐Skin for Thermally Comfortable Multiplexed SERS Sweat Analysis and Strain Monitoring

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Wearable sweat sensors face persistent trade‐offs between multiplexed detection, signal stability, and wearing comfort. Here, we present a Janus electronic skin (e‐skin) with dual‐mode functionality, offering both thermal and moisture comfort.

Soft‐Tissue Augmentation During Implant Placement in the Aesthetic Zone: Clinical, Radiographic, Histological and Patient‐Reported Outcomes From a Randomised Controlled Trial Using Connective Tissue Graft and a Volume‐Stable Collagen Matrix

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Periodontology, Volume 53, Issue 10, Page 1585-1595, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim To evaluate the clinical, radiographic, histological and patient‐reported outcome measures (PROMs) of soft‐tissue augmentation (STA) during implant placement in the aesthetic zone using a connective tissue graft (CTG) or a volume‐stable collagen matrix (VCMX). Materials and Methods In this three‐arm randomised controlled trial, 25 patients

Circadian Clock Gates Verticillium dahliae Defence in Cotton by Modulating JAZs Expression

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 10, Page 5526-5543, October 2026.
ABSTRACT The circadian clock plays critical roles in orchestrating temporal regulation of diverse physiological processes. However, its role in mediating root‐associated immunity against soil‐borne pathogens in crops remains poorly understood. Here, we show that cotton circadian clock gates nighttime resistance to vascular fungal pathogen Verticillium ...

Multilayer Self‐Limiting Electrospray Deposition via Stepped Voltage Bias

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 18, 23 September 2026.
Self‐limiting electrospray deposition (SLED) uses a high voltage to generate and deposit a charged payload on a target surface. The coating retains its charge, repelling newly arriving material. SLED thickness can be decreased by applying a secondary bias to the target.
