Experimental Study of Spray Characteristics of Kerosene-Ethanol Blends from a Pressure-Swirl Nozzle

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2018
Partial replacement of kerosene by ethanol in a gas turbine is regarded as a good way to improve the spray quality and reduce the fossil energy consumption.

Investigating the Cytoskeleton of DRGs Using Cryo‐Electron Microscopy and Deep Learning

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We describe a method for determining the ultrastructural organization of axons and varicosities of cultured dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons using cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo‐EM). Cryo‐EM reveals the dimensions, proximity, and overall organization of biological specimens in a near‐native state, avoiding artifacts of fixation and ...

Clinical periodontal diagnosis

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Periodontal diseases include pathological conditions elicited by the presence of bacterial biofilms leading to a host response. In the diagnostic process, clinical signs such as bleeding on probing, development of periodontal pockets and gingival recessions, furcation involvement and presence of radiographic bone loss should be assessed prior ...

Double Sided Traction Force Microscopy: A Method to Confine Cells for Physiologically Relevant Force Measurements

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this paper we describe a technique to make a confined environment of variable stiffness that is suitable for high‐resolution live‐cell imaging. This versatile and adaptable technique enables cell confinement between soft elastic surfaces made from polyacrylamide gels.

Large droplet release

open access: yesDroplet, EarlyView.
Curved hydrophobic mesh surfaces enable stable release of large droplets exceeding the capillary length. By tuning surface curvature, porosity, and acceleration, oscillatory breakup is suppressed, producing near‐spherical droplets ideal for high‐precision fluid applications and multiphase flow control.

Developing a Suitable Anion Exchange Layer Structure for Pure–Water Fed Bipolar Membrane CO2 Electrolysis

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
A porous anion exchange layer (AEL) is implemented in a forward‐biased bipolar membrane CO2 electrolyzer to suppress carbonate crossover, support CO2 regeneration and maintain cathode alkalinity. Two fabrication strategies are compared—deposition on a silver gas diffusion electrode (GDE) or on the CEM—showing that a porous AEL‐coated GDE provides the ...

Investigation of in-nozzle flow behavior coupled with spray characteristics of waste cooking oil and castor biodiesel

open access: yesEnergy Conversion and Management: X
Biodiesel is a promising alternative to conventional diesel. However, it may cause reduced mass flow, higher injector deposits and poor atomization. This study presents the numerical investigation of the effect of in-nozzle flow on fuel spray behavior ...

Effect of Ammonium Polyphosphate/Silicate Content on the Postfire Mechanics of Epoxy Glass‐Fiber Composites Using Facile Chocolate Bar‐Inspired Structures

open access: yesFire and Materials, Volume 49, Issue 3, Page 329-346, April 2025.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the postfire mechanical properties of epoxy glass‐fiber reinforced composites (EP GFRCs) using increasing concentrations of ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and inorganic silicate (InSi) to modify the char and fire residue.

Challenges and strategies toward next‐generation high‐performance flexible and printable thin‐film transistors

open access: yesFlexMat, EarlyView.
This review explores recent progress in printing strategies such as inkjet, screen, liquid metal, and roll to roll (R2R) methods and their roles in fabricating flexible TFTs. Device architectures are examined with emphasis on printed components and their influence on performance and stability.
