Spray Forming of Steels

2017
Spray forming of a wide range of steels and iron based alloys have been investigated since the 1970s. These range from low-alloy carbon steels to high-carbon, high-alloy tool steels. The preform types include round billets, flat deposits, tubular preforms, clad structures, gradient deposits, and molds/dies.

Arc spray forming

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2005
Abstract Spray forming can be used for rapid fabricating parts and moulds of ceramic, metal and alloy. The coating property has a dramatic effect on the quality and service performance of the products. Researches on improving the coating quality are mostly focused on spraying technology internationally.

Plasma spray forming

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2002
Abstract The technology of plasma spray forming (PSF) is introduced, and the technical processes of plasma spray for fabricating parts and moulds are investigated emphatically in this paper. The technological characteristics of PSF are summarized, including original prototype fabrication and surface treatment, post-treatment of a formed workpiece and

Spray Modelling in Spray Forming

Multiphase Flow and Heat Transfer in Materials Processing, 1994
Abstract In a common point of view, metallurgical spray applications can be devided into the unit operations: atomization / particle injection - particle transport / heat transfer -impingement / compaction. In this contribution, the Eulerian / Lagrangian way of dispersed two-phase flow in sprays with momentum and heat transfer has ...

Cold Spray Forming Inconel 718

International Thermal Spray Conference, 2012
Abstract In this investigation, Inconel 718, a material known to cause nozzle clogging upon cold spraying, was cold spray formed to 6 mm-thick using the Plasma Giken cold spray system PCS- 1000. This was made possible due to the novel non-clogging nozzle material combined with a nozzle water cooling system.
