A damping device based on bistable springs

2012 IEEE 4th International Conference on Nonlinear Science and Complexity (NSC), 2012
A device for earthquake energy dissipation in shear-type structures is introduced. The idea is basically to employ chains made of bistable springs, that exhibit hysteretic behavior.

Molecular Springs: Integration of Complex Dynamic Architectures into Functional Devices

Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2020
AbstractMolecular/supramolecular springs are artificial nanoscale objects possessing well‐defined structures and tunable physicochemical properties. Like a macroscopic spring, supramolecular springs are capable of switching their nanoscale conformation as a response to external stimuli by undergoing mechanical spring‐like motions.

Recent developments of insertion devices at SPring-8

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2001
Abstract The construction of the 25-m long undulator of in-vacuum type was finished successfully and installed into the 30-m straight section of the SPring-8 storage ring. The period length is 32 mm and the number of periods is 780. The maximum field is obtained as 0.59 T at the minimum gap of 12 mm. Although this device is composed of five segments,

Improvement of dynamic transparency of haptic devices by using spring balance

2012 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics (ROBIO), 2012
Force-reflecting devices should be static balanced to get good transparency. Generally counterweights are added to the haptic device to achieve a completely static balance in the working space. However this may decrease considerably the dynamic performance of the device due to larger inertia.

Insertion Devices for Spring-8 Upgrade Project

2016
In the upcoming major upgrade project of SPring-8 (SPring-8-II) planned in the early 2020's, the electron energy will be reduced from 8 GeV to 6 GeV and the straight sections will be shortened by nearly 2 m to accommodate more magnets, for the purpose of reducing the emittance down to around 100 pm.rad.

Preliminary Experiments of Dynamic Buoyancy Adjusting Device with an Assist Spring

2013
In this paper, we propose a dynamic buoyancy adjusting device with an assist spring for underwater robot survey. The purpose of this device is to prevent underwater robots from agitating the water and sand during underwater survey and sampling. The proposed buoyancy adjusting device is actuated by an electric motor with a passive spring that provides ...

Certain problems in the theory of spring weighing devices

Measurement Techniques, 1967
1. In order to raise the operating speed of spring weighing devices and reduce their dynamic errors it is necessary to raise the angular frequency of their natural oscillations and produce a moving system with a minimum weight and its natural oscillations damping factor equal to the angular frequency of these oscillations (λ=ω0). 2.
