A new hybrid between blue spruce and white spruce
Canadian Journal of Botany, 1969Controlled pollinations were made within and between blue spruce (Picea pungens Engelm.) and white spruce (Picea glauca (Moench) Voss) in 1967 and 1968. Interspecific hybrids were obtained and verified by comparative measurements of several traits. The cross was successful when either species was used as the female parent.

Bud and crown architecture of white spruce and black spruce
Trees, 2006Needle primordia in buds and branch lengths were assessed in the crown of a plantation-grown white spruce tree. There was a gradation in needle primordia in buds in branches within the crown. The largest number of primordia was in the terminal bud of the leading main stem shoot, with the number in first-order whorl lateral shoot terminal buds ...

The Sensitivity of Young White Spruce to Spruce Budworm Defoliation
Northern Journal of Applied Forestry, 1991Abstract Relationships between defoliation and volume growth were determined for 68 young white spruce trees in a 20-year-old plantation defoliated over a 2-year period by the spruce budworm. In the first year of defoliation, intensities ranging from 7 to 89% of the current foliage did not influence volume growth significantly.

Studies on the holocellulose of Sitka spruce : methylation of spruce holocellulose
2012Sitka Spruce holocellulose has been prepared by the chlorite procedure as modified by Wise and associates. This material has been subjected to successive methylations. The methoxyl content and yield of the solid residue were determined after each methylation and the methoxyl contents have been compared with corresponding values obtained when extractive-

Ancient Blue Spruce Hiding Among Engelmann Spruce
Results of research in forest health and forest futures in Utah Key Results 1. Ancient trees: Old-growth blue and Engelmann spruce (>300 years, Fig. 1) were scattered throughout closed-canopy stands. 2. Drought stress predominates: Higher precipitation and lower maximum temperatures improve growth — even in a forest at 10,000 ft. 3.Lutz, James A., Birch, Joseph D.
