Effects of Biochar and Nitrogen‐Enriched Biochar on Tree Growth in Scots Pine Stands

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 18, Issue 9, September 2026.
Tree growth in middle‐aged Scots pine stands was unaffected by biochar alone, while nitrogen‐enriched biochar and conventional nitrogen fertilization resulted in comparable positive growth responses. ABSTRACT Biochar, a carbon‐rich product of pyrolysis, is increasingly considered for soil amendment and climate change mitigation due to its potential to ...

Comprehensive Review on Green Transformation of Organic Waste Into Bioenergy Using Microbial Enzymes: Advances, Challenges, and Future Strategies

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 18, Issue 9, September 2026.
Microbial enzyme‐mediated biorefineries enable the sustainable conversion of organic waste into renewable bioenergy and value‐added products. Recent advances on enzymatic pretreatment, enzyme cocktails, and hybrid processing enhance biogas, bioethanol, and biodiesel production, along with supporting efficient waste valorization, circular bioeconomy ...

The Consequential Climate Impact of Bioenergy and Wood Products: A New Framework for the Assessment of Biogenic Carbon

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 18, Issue 9, September 2026.
This work proposes a new framework for the assessment of biogenic carbon and calculates new emission factors based on full forest carbon dynamics, with harvest intensity showing a clear effect on the emission factors. Temporal dynamics as well as short‐ and long‐term impacts highlight the importance of considering time in the assessment of biogenic CO2.
