Proximate Climate Drivers of Beaver Pond Occupancy and Range Expansion in Arctic Alaska

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology Communications, Volume 1, Issue 3, September 2026.
To understand why beavers are colonizing the Arctic, we evaluated which climate drivers underpin beaver pond dynamics. Dominance of Picea glehnii in the Serpentine Forests of Hokkaido: Perspectives for an Ecological Understanding

open access: yesEcological Research, Volume 41, Issue 5, September 2026.
We question why Picea glehnii dominates serpentine forests in Hokkaido. First, based on functional trait measurements and a comparison with another coniferous species present in the region, Abies sachalinensis, we report preliminary results consistent with better adaptation of P. glehnii to serpentine soils.
