Restoration of temperate forestry‐drained fens brings back key species and ecosystem function

Our results highlight that rewetting forestry‐drained temperate fens can lead to partial vegetation recovery and jump‐start peat formation. Abstract Fen peatlands act as carbon sinks and are hotspots for specialized species, but a large proportion of fens have been drained for agricultural or forestry use.

Dominance of Picea glehnii in the Serpentine Forests of Hokkaido: Perspectives for an Ecological Understanding

We question why Picea glehnii dominates serpentine forests in Hokkaido. First, based on functional trait measurements and a comparison with another coniferous species present in the region, Abies sachalinensis, we report preliminary results consistent with better adaptation of P. glehnii to serpentine soils.
