Genetics and Breeding of Black Spruce and Red Spruce
This review emphasizes findings that are of value for early application in tree breeding and silviculture. Black spruce and red spruce are closely related genetically and hybridize where their ranges overlap, particularly in the Maritime Provinces.

Caribou forage lichens were present in post‐burn lodgepole pine stands multiple decades before stem‐density was likely open enough to attract wintering caribou. We posit that the prolonged self‐thinning of lodgepole pine after fire may be a greater limiting factor than lichen abundance for habitat recovery in lodgepole pine forests.

Reindeer grazing induces spatial and functional shifts in root systems of boreal pine forests
The spatial distribution of roots, laterally and vertically, is critical for nutrient and water uptake and for driving root‐associated carbon inputs and turnover. Large herbivores, such as reindeer, influence ecosystems belowground by altering aboveground vegetation composition and soil microclimate.
