Inheritance of plastids in interspecific hybrids of blue spruce and white spruce

Chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) was purified from blue spruce (Picea pungens Engelm.) and white spruce [P. glauca (Moench) Voss], and was digested with several different restriction endonucleases. Restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs) were identified that differentiated the cpDNA of both species.

Studies on the development of spruce budworm (Choristoneurafumiferana (Clem.)) on white spruce (Piceaglauca (Moench) Voss) were conducted in northern Alberta in 1969 and again in 1990. The phenology of this insect and its host were described using stochastic models.

Effectiveness of spruce budworm spraying in New Brunswick in protecting the spruce component of spruce–fir stands

Tree mortality and defoliation were examined in 45 spruce (Picea sp.) stands protected against damage by spruce budworm (Choristoneurafumiferana (Clem.)) and in 27 unprotected spruce stands in New Brunswick, and were related to tree, stand, and site characteristics.

Spruce Beetle Effects on a White Spruce Stand in Alaska

Abstract A severe infestation of spruce beetle (Dendroctonus rufipennis Kby.) in a white spruce (Picea glauca [Moench] Voss)-paper birch (Betula papyrifera var.) stand caused 64.6 percent mortality of spruce 5 inches d.b.h. and larger where the infestation was completed. Survival of spruce was greater in smaller diameters.

Abstract The test was designed to compare two experimental numbered compounds and a new formulation of Sevin to a standard formulation, Sevimol. Treatments were assigned randomly to three 30 x 30 ft plots marked out in the plantation. Treated plots were separated by 25 ft buffers.
