Granulomatous hepatitis caused by Salmonella Typhimurium in a spur‐thighed tortoise ( Testudo graeca )

Veterinary Record, 2005
and subjected to histopathological examination using haematoxylin and eosin, Gram and Giemsa staining techniques. Macroscopic examination revealed numerous nodular areas in the liver, varying in size up to 0·5 cm in diameter, yellowish and soft to cut (Fig 1).

Ultrasonographic diagnosis of pericardial effusion and atrial dilation in a spur‐thighed tortoise ( Testudo graeca )

Veterinary Record, 2000
Ultrasonography was used to diagnose pericardial effusion, atrial dilatation and liver masses in a spurthighed tortoise which was more than 80 years old and suffering from posthibernation anorexia, lethargy, oedema and pneumonia. The tortoise was treated twice with frusemide and ceftazidime for the pneumonia, resulting each time in a temporary ...

IMAGING DIAGNOSIS – SEMINOMA CAUSING LIVER COMPRESSION IN A SPUR‐THIGHED TORTOISE (TESTUDO GRAECA)

Veterinary Radiology & Ultrasound, 2014
A 13‐year‐old male spur‐thighed tortoise (Testudo graeca) was presented with anorexia, apathy, and prolapse of penile tissue. Ultrasonography revealed a large heterogeneous mass in the coelomic cavity, and fine‐needle aspiration demonstrated sperm. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a sharply defined mass originating from the left testis. Appearance and

DIAGNOSIS AND SURGICAL REPAIR OF STIFLE LUXATION IN A SPUR-THIGHED TORTOISE (TESTUDO GRAECA)

Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine, 2002
This report describes stifle luxation resultant from multiple ligamentous injuries in a spur-thighed tortoise (Testudo graeca). Despite an absence of obvious trauma in the case history, the tortoise presented with acute, unilateral hind limb lameness.

Food choice of an Algerian population of the spur‐thighed tortoise,Testudo graeca

African Journal of Herpetology, 2008
The diet of an Algerian population of spur-thighed tortoise (Testudo graeca) was studied with the aims of exploring: (i) the variation in diet among males, females and juveniles, (ii) the relationships between consumption and relative availability of the plant species, and (iii) which plant tissues, vegeta- tive or reproductive, are eaten by tortoises.

Maintained effects of fire on individual growth and survival rates in a spur-thighed tortoise population

European Journal of Wildlife Research, 2013
Fires strongly influence the ecology of reptiles and have both direct and indirect effects on population dynamics as they affect life history traits. Here, we examine the effects of fire on individual growth patterns and on the survival rates of a tortoise Testudo graeca population in south-eastern Spain. We compare the biometric data from recaptures 4

Lower urinary tract obstruction in a Mediterranean spur‐thighed tortoise ( Testudo graeca ) with coxofemoral arthritis

Veterinary Record, 2006
At postmortem examination, there was 100 ml of clear, colourless fluid in the coelomic cavity. The ovaries were active. The ureters, urinary bladder and urethra were distended with pale yellow-white, semisolid uric acid deposits proximal to an obstruction caused by a mass protruding from the left side of the pelvis into the pelvic canal.

Movement patterns and habitat use of soft-released translocated spur-thighed tortoises, Testudo graeca

European Journal of Wildlife Research, 2010
Wildlife translocations, the deliberate movement of animals from one part of their distribution to another, are increasingly used as a conservation method for the reestablishment of rare and endangered species. The objective of this study was to examine the movement patterns and macro- and microhabitat use of translocated and resident spur-thighed ...

Expansion after expansion: dissecting the phylogeography of the widely distributed spur-thighed tortoise, Testudo graeca (Testudines: Testudinidae)

Biological Journal of the Linnean Society, 2017
Studying phylogeographic histories in wide-ranging species provides key insights into those processes shaping current species’ distributions and genetic structuring. In this work, we extend previous sampling and analyse data from three mitochondrial genes to explore in-depth the phylogeography of the spur-thighed tortoise (Testudo graeca), the most ...
