Increasing spur gear durability: two-material spur gear

International Journal of Computer Applications in Technology, 2005
A new design method to improve durability of spur gears made of low tensile strength material is utilised. In this method, the gear is made of two materials, where most of the gear body is made of low tensile strength material (like gray cast iron or aluminium), and only teeth fillets are made of high tensile strength material (like steel).

Dynamic optimization of spur gears

Mechanism and Machine Theory, 2007
This paper presents a global optimization method able to find gear profile modifications that minimize vibrations. A non linear dynamic model is used to study the vibrational behavior; the dynamic model is validated using data available in literature. The optimization method takes into account the influence of torque levels both on the static and the ...

Dynamic Behaviour of Spur Gears

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, 1963
In an earlier paper by one of the authors (9) a theoretical analysis suggested that, at certain speeds, large vibrations can occur in a pair of spur gears, without any manufacturing errors and without any external excitation, provided the damping is less than about 0·07 of critical.

Gear Cutting I, Spur Gears

1987
The simplest method by which a gear can be cut is to use a tool shaped exactly like the tooth space of the gear. This method of cutting gears is known as form cutting. In practice, the cutting tool is generally a milling cutter, such as the one shown in Figure 5.1. The gear blank is held stationary while the cutter is fed slowly in the direction of the

Interference Between External Spur Gears

2020
In this chapter, the problems of interference between external spur gears in both cutting and working conditions are first described and discussed. The discussion is quite general and therefore includes involute or primary interference and fillet interference.

Load Capacity of the HCR-Spur Gears in Comparison with Standard Spur Gears

1998
This paper deals with the load capacity of high contact ratio (HCR) external involute spur gears with theoretically accurate profile in comparison with the standard external involute gears. First, tooth root and Hertzian stress for a HCR- and standard gear pairs are calculated according to DIN 3990 and then compared.
