Increasing spur gear durability: two-material spur gear

International Journal of Computer Applications in Technology, 2005
A new design method to improve durability of spur gears made of low tensile strength material is utilised. In this method, the gear is made of two materials, where most of the gear body is made of low tensile strength material (like gray cast iron or aluminium), and only teeth fillets are made of high tensile strength material (like steel).

Dynamic optimization of spur gears

Mechanism and Machine Theory, 2007
This paper presents a global optimization method able to find gear profile modifications that minimize vibrations. A non linear dynamic model is used to study the vibrational behavior; the dynamic model is validated using data available in literature. The optimization method takes into account the influence of torque levels both on the static and the ...

Dynamic Behaviour of Spur Gears

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, 1963
In an earlier paper by one of the authors (9) a theoretical analysis suggested that, at certain speeds, large vibrations can occur in a pair of spur gears, without any manufacturing errors and without any external excitation, provided the damping is less than about 0ยท07 of critical.

Interference Between External Spur Gears

2020
In this chapter, the problems of interference between external spur gears in both cutting and working conditions are first described and discussed. The discussion is quite general and therefore includes involute or primary interference and fillet interference.

Gear Tooth Stress of an End-Relieved Spur Gear

Bulletin of JSME, 1966
In the nose-suspended type traction gears, the angle between the projected lines of axes of pinion and gear on pitch plane often becomes equal to about 10' and end tooth bearing happens, leading to tooth failures. In JNR, as the countermeasure for these failures, heavily crowned gears are used for nose-suspended type traction gears.

Gear Cutting I, Spur Gears

1987
The simplest method by which a gear can be cut is to use a tool shaped exactly like the tooth space of the gear. This method of cutting gears is known as form cutting. In practice, the cutting tool is generally a milling cutter, such as the one shown in Figure 5.1. The gear blank is held stationary while the cutter is fed slowly in the direction of the

Approach to spur gear design

Computer-Aided Design, 1987
Abstract A large number of parameters are involved in gear design. The design of gears also requires an iterative approach to optimize the design parameters that take care of kinematic aspects as well as strength aspects. Moreover, the choice of materials available for gears is not limited. Owing to the complex combinations of the above facts, manual

Simplified Spur Gear Design

Volume 11: Systems, Design, and Complexity, 2016
A simplified design method (SDM) for spur gears is presented. The Hertz contact stress and Lewis root bending stress capacity models for spur gears have been reformulated and formatted into simplified forms. A scheme is suggested for estimating the AGMA J-factor in Lewis root bending stress for spur gears from a single curve for both pinion and gear ...
