Gear Tooth Stress of an End-Relieved Spur Gear
In the nose-suspended type traction gears, the angle between the projected lines of axes of pinion and gear on pitch plane often becomes equal to about 10' and end tooth bearing happens, leading to tooth failures. In JNR, as the countermeasure for these failures, heavily crowned gears are used for nose-suspended type traction gears.

Wear mechanisms in polyoxymethylene spur gears
Abstract The interaction of a polymer-steel spur gear pair is naturally prone to cause wear of the softer polymer material. Experimental equipment was therefore designed and constructed to run a polymer-steel spur gear pair with sufficiently accurate instrumentation such that the load and speed could be measured under a range of operating conditions.

Simulation of Rotational Vibration of Spur Gears
This paper introduces a developed simulator on a rotational vibration and a strain at a root of a tooth, on a power transmission spur gear. The simulator solves a differential equation with one degree of freedom in consideration of the behaviour of the stiffness around tooth tip meshing.

Transmission errors in precision worm gear drives [PDF]
Transmission error is a measure of the positioning accuracy of a gear system. This has been widely documented in gearing for many years as the source of problems in noise and vibration.
