Design of spurious mode-free elliptical ring resonators
Microsystem Technologies, 2016Spurious modes suppression to retain the purity of the main resonance in lateral-extensional contour modes is one of the most important requirements for commercializing vibrating RF MEMS resonators. This issue becomes much more critical for ring-shaped micromechanical resonators that are normally susceptible to both out-of-plane flexural modes and in ...

Control of spurious modes in the nine‐node quadrilateral element
International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1982AbstractThe nine‐node quadrilateral is much more accurate than its eight‐node relative if elements are non‐rectangular. However, the nine‐node element may display spurious low‐energy modes under 2 × 2 Gauss quadrature. These modes can be controlled by using the 3 × 3 quadrature rule, but at added cost.

Suppression of spurious lateral modes in thickness-excited FBAR resonators
IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 2005Thin film bulk acoustic wave resonators (FBAR) utilize thickness-excited modes in which the resonant frequency is determined by the thickness of the structure and the wave velocity of the mode used. Unfortunately, other resonant modes also may be excited in the device.

Dielectric TM-mode resonator with improved spurious response
2014 20th International Conference on Microwaves, Radar and Wireless Communications (MIKON), 2014Modern communications systems require filters with compact resonators. Dielectric TM-mode resonators are used to shrink filter size but they usually have worse spurious response when compared to traditional metallic combline filters. Dielectric TM mode resonator with improved spurious response is presented in the article.

Step-by-step resonant cavity perturbation with spurious mode filtering
2017 IEEE MTT-S International Conference on Numerical Electromagnetic and Multiphysics Modeling and Optimization for RF, Microwave, and Terahertz Applications (NEMO), 2017In this study, an electromagnetic resonant cavity problem is analyzed by using the step-by-step perturbation method where nodal finite element method is used for obtaining the initial solutions. For the tasks such as optimization, fine tuning and parametric history extraction, step-by-step perturbation method has a very low computational cost compared ...

Spurious Modes in Coaxial Transmission Line Filters
Proceedings of the IRE, 1950Coaxial transmission line filters in which the shunt reactive elements are conducting rods inserted between the inner and outer conductors of the series coaxial transmission line may be analyzed by the use of well-known transmission line equations if only the TEM mode propagates.

Spurious modes in geometrically nonlinear small displacement finite elements with incompatible modes
Computers & Structures, 2014We demonstrate the existence of spurious modes in finite elements with incompatible modes when a geometrically nonlinear displacement analysis with small displacements and strains is performed. The spurious modes are a direct consequence of the incompatibility of the elements with displacement boundary conditions.

Non-reciprocal waveguide grating with blocked spurious output mode
2008 24th Biennial Symposium on Communications, 2008A non-reciprocal waveguide grating is one in which the modal coupling strength is not equal in both directions, in stark opposition to the case of the standard index grating, which is necessarily reciprocal. In all previous designs of non-reciprocal gratings, the desired coupling mode is accompanied by a spurious non-coupling mode, which is detrimental

Development of optimized interpolation schemes with spurious modes minimization
International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, 2015SummaryThis work constitutes a fraction of a more extensive effort, which ultimate objective is the development of advanced aeroacoustics hybrid methods. Within this framework, we here focus on the interpolation step, on which generally rely all coupling processes that link altogether the various stages constituting any given hybrid method.

Spurious modes of the TLM-condensed node formulation
IEEE Microwave and Guided Wave Letters, 1991The TLM (transmission line matrix) method is based on temporal and spatial sampling of electromagnetic fields. As with he FDTD (finite-difference-time-domain) method, this results in dispersive effects and propagating spurious modes that corrupt the field solution.
