Documenting biodiversity with digital data: comparing and contrasting the efficacy of specimen‐based and observation‐based approaches

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Digitized herbarium specimens and iNaturalist observations provide invaluable plant biodiversity data. Combining these two data sources could create a more holistic representation of local biodiversity; however, understanding biases inherent to each is critical to determine how to best combine and utilize these data.

OpenIVM: a SQL-to-SQL Compiler for Incremental Computations

open access: yesCompanion of the 2024 International Conference on Management of Data
This demonstration presents a new Open Source SQL-to-SQL compiler for Incremental View Maintenance (IVM). While previous systems, such as DBToaster, implemented computational functionality for IVM in a separate system, the core principle of OpenIVM is to make use of existing SQL query processing engines and perform all IVM computations via SQL.

Inflamed or Infected Molluscum Contagiosum Lesions: Pediatrician Perceptions and the Risk of Antibiotic Overuse

open access: yesPediatric Dermatology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background/Objectives Molluscum contagiosum (MC) is a common pediatric skin infection caused by the molluscum contagiosum virus. Lesions often become inflamed prior to self‐resolving. This phenomenon can mimic bacterial superinfection, although true superinfection of MC lesions is thought to be rare.

Desolvation‐Induced Network Reformation and Cracking in the Single Crystals of Hydrogen‐Bonded Frameworks Composed of Tetraazaanthraquinone and Anthraquinone Derivatives

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 137, Issue 33, August 11, 2025.
Two solvated hydrogen‐bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) based on tetraazaanthraquinone and anthraquinone were found to undergo quasi single‐crystal‐to‐single‐crystal transformations through hydrogen‐bond cleavage and re‐formation. These transformations induced crystal crack propagations, and molecular‐level correlations between the structural ...

Developing an Accounting Virtual Assistant Through Supervised Fine‐Tuning (SFT) of a Small Language Model (SLM)

open access: yesIntelligent Systems in Accounting, Finance and Management, Volume 32, Issue 3, September 2025.
ABSTRACT The development of an in‐house accounting bot—an artificial intelligence (AI) assistant capable of generating internally structured bookkeeping double‐entry posting schemes—is explored in this paper. The processes of curating a suitable dataset, selecting, and fine‐tuning a seven‐billion‐parameter language model, categorized as a small ...

R-SQL: An SQL Database System with Extended Recursion

open access: yes, 2013
The relational database language SQL:1999 standard supports recursion, but thisapproach is limited to the linear case. Moreover, mutual recursion is not supported, and negation cannot be combined with recursion. We designed the language R-SQLto overcome these limitations in [ANSS13], improving termination properties in re-cursive definitions.
