BerEp4, cytokeratin 14, and cytokeratin 17 immunohistochemical staining aid in differentiation of basaloid squamous cell carcinoma from basal cell carcinoma with squamous metaplasia.

Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, 2013
CONTEXT Basaloid squamous cell carcinoma (bSCC) is an uncommon variant of squamous cell carcinoma, which may overlap histologically with basal cell carcinoma with squamous metaplasia (BCCm).

Synovial Sarcoma with Squamous Metaplasia

Ultrastructural Pathology, 1984
We report on a biphasic synovial sarcoma showing slight squamous cell differentiation of their epithelioid component under the light microscope. The electron microscopical examination revealed numerous tonofilaments arranged in dense bundles, which could be characterized as tonofibrils with keratohyalin granules in the same cells.

Proinflammatory cytokines induce bronchial hyperplasia and squamous metaplasia in smokers: implications for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease therapy.

American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology, 2012
Tracheobronchial squamous metaplasia is common in smokers, and is associated with both airway obstruction in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and increased risk of lung cancer.

Squamous Metaplasia of the Renal Pelvis

Radiology, 1967
Squamous metaplasia (leukoplakia, cholesteatoma) of the renal pelvis, although uncommon, is a potentially serious disease which can produce bizarre roentgenological findings. Since the lesion was first described by Ebstein in 1882 (2), only a small number of the 120 cases reported in the literature have been diagnosed correctly prior to surgery.

Cardiac asthma: transforming growth factor-β from the failing heart leads to squamous metaplasia in human airway cells and in the murine lung.

Chest, 2012
BACKGROUND Cardiac asthma describes symptoms of airflow obstruction due to heart failure. Chronic heart failure is associated with decreased FEV 1 , and FEV 1 improves after heart transplantation. Fibrotic remodeling of the heart and airways is mediated,

ADENOLYMPHOMA WITH MASSIVE NECROSIS AND SQUAMOUS METAPLASIA

Acta Pathologica Japonica, 1984
A 61‐year‐old female presented with a longstanding parotid mass with recent change in size. Histologically, the mass was composed of extensively necrotic tissue with a peripheral rim of ribbons of epithelium. In one focus, a double layer of oxyphilic epithelium overlying a lymphoid stroma in a papillary configuration was present, establishing the ...

Squamous metaplasia of the cervix uteri

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1945
Recorded data on a series of more than 600 cervices studied over a 4-year period provided the basis for a study on the incidence of squamous metalasia and its etiologic factors. 100 consecutive cases were found to be representative of the sampling as a whole.

Mucinous and Squamous Metaplasia of the Renal Pelvis

Journal of Urology, 1983
Mucinous and squamous cell metaplasia of the transitional cell epithelium occurs in response to chronic irritation and is predominantly found in the bladder. When the 2 forms of metaplasia occur simultaneously they usually are associated with malignancy.

Squamous metaplasia of the rectum and sigmoid colon

Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, 2001
Squamous cell metaplasia has been described with relative frequency in colorectal adenocarcinoma (where it is called adenosquamous carcinoma)3 and in colorectal polyps (known as adenoacanthoma). However, squamous metaplasia unassociated with tumor or polyp is rare. Davis,4 in 1938, reported the first cases of squamous metaplasia of the rectum. Of the 5

Simultaneous malignant squamous metaplasia of the cervix and ovary [PDF]

open access: possibleGynecologic Oncology, 1979
Abstract A case is presented in which simultaneous malignant squamous metaplasia was identified in the cervix and both ovaries. It is suggested that this is a manifestation of a "field" response to an unknown carcinogenic stimulus in the upper genital canal.
