Gaussian Integers, Rings, Finite Fields, and the Magic Square of Squares [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
We show the 3 by 3 magic square of squares problem equivalent to solving quartic polynomials with certain factorization constraints over an abelian extension of the rationals. We analyze a particular case in which said extension is assumed to be the Gaussian integers resulting a new search method.

Approximating the principal matrix square root using some novel third-order iterative methods

open access: yesAin Shams Engineering Journal, 2018
It is known that the matrix square root has a significant role in linear algebra computations arisen in engineering and sciences. Any matrix with no eigenvalues in R- has a unique square root for which every eigenvalue lies in the open right half-plane ...

Singularities of square-free polynomials [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
We prove that hypersurfaces defined by irreducible square-free polynomials have rational singularities.

Commutative Algebras with One-Dimensional Square

open access: yesMediterranean Journal of Mathematics
Abstract In this paper, we classify and study commutative algebras having a one-dimensional square. In finite dimension (see Theorem 3.9) besides some cases (which are all associative and nilpotent with nilpotency index 3), the algebras with zero annihilator are either of symplectic type (appearing only in characteristic 2), or evolution ...
