Optimizing calibration designs with uncertainty in abilities

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Before items can be implemented in a test, the item characteristics need to be calibrated through pretesting. To achieve high‐quality tests, it's crucial to maximize the precision of estimates obtained during item calibration. Higher precision can be attained if calibration items are allocated to examinees based on their individual abilities ...

An extension of the basic local independence model to multiple observed classifications

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract The basic local independence model (BLIM) is appropriate in situations where populations do not differ in the probabilities of the knowledge states and the probabilities of careless errors and lucky guesses of the items. In some situations, this is not the case. This work introduces the multiple observed classification local independence model

Computing Skinning Weights via Convex Duality

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
We present an alternate optimization method to compute bounded biharmonic skinning weights. Our method relies on a dual formulation, which can be optimized with a nonnegative linear least squares setup. Abstract We study the problem of optimising for skinning weights through the lens of convex duality.

Farmers’ share of the consumer food dollar in Canada: What input‐output data from 1997–2021 show us

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Agricultural Economics/Revue canadienne d'agroeconomie, EarlyView.
Abstract This article uses Canadian input–output data from 1997–2021 to explore the consumer food dollar in terms of its distribution between farmers (i.e., farm share) and post‐farm gate industries. We have adopted the method developed by Canning (2011), which is based on a type one Input‐Output multiplier model.
