Fermion quartets on the square lattice

open access: yesPhysical Review B, 2023
We study a microscopic model for four spinless fermions on the square lattice which exhibits a quartet bound state in the strong coupling regime. The four-particle quantum states are analyzed using symmetry arguments and by introducing a zoo of relevant lattice animals. These considerations, as well as variational and exact diagonalization calculations

Polarization Converter Based on Square Lattice Photonic Crystal Fiber with Double-Hole Units

open access: yesCrystals, 2019
In this study, a novel polarization converter (PC) based on square lattice photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is proposed and analyzed. For each square unit in the cladding, two identical circular air holes are arranged symmetrically along the y = x ...

Band gap engineering in simultaneous phononic and photonic crystal slabs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We discuss the simultaneous existence of phononic and photonic band gaps in two types of phononic crystals slabs, namely periodic arrays of nanoholes in a Si membrane and of Si nanodots on a SiO2 membrane. In the former geometry, we investigate in detail

Adsorption of line segments on a square lattice [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 1994
We study the deposition of line segments on a two-dimensional square lattice. The estimates for the coverage at jamming obtained by Monte-Carlo simulations and by $7^{th}$-order time-series expansion are successfully compared. The non-trivial limit of adsorption of infinitely long segments is studied, and the lattice coverage is consistently obtained ...

Folding the square-diagonal lattice [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 1998
We study the problem of "phantom" folding of the two-dimensional square lattice, in which the edges and diagonals of each face can be folded. The non-vanishing thermodynamic folding entropy per face $s \simeq .2299(1)$ is estimated both analytically and numerically, by successively mapping the model onto a dense loop model, a spin model and a new 28 ...

Ground state with nonzero spontaneous magnetization of the two-dimensional spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet with frustration

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2018
The S = 1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the two-dimensional pyramid lattice is studied by the numerical-diagonalization method. This lattice is obtained by the combination of the Lieb lattice and the square lattice. It is known that when interaction on

Interplay of Spin and Spatial Anisotropy in Low-Dimensional Quantum Magnets with Spin 1/2

open access: yesCrystals, 2018
Quantum Heisenberg chain and square lattices are important paradigms of a low-dimensional magnetism. Their ground states are determined by the strength of quantum fluctuations.

Extension of the spin-1/2 frustrated square lattice model: the case of layered vanadium phosphates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We study the influence of the spin lattice distortion on the properties of frustrated magnetic systems and consider the applicability of the spin-1/2 frustrated square lattice model to materials lacking tetragonal symmetry.
