Radiation therapy response prediction for head and neck cancer using multimodal imaging and multiview dynamic graph autoencoder feature selection

open access: yesMedical Physics, Volume 52, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Background External beam radiation therapy is a common treatment for head and neck (H&N) cancers. Radiomic features derived from biomedical images have shown promise as effective biomarkers used to assess tumor heterogeneity and predict response to treatment.

Deep‐learning models of the ascending proprioceptive pathway are subject to illusions

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, Volume 110, Issue 10, Page 1511-1530, October 1, 2025.
Abstract Proprioception is essential for perception and action. Like any other sense, proprioception is also subject to illusions. In this study, we model classic proprioceptive illusions in which tendon vibrations lead to biases in estimating the state of the body.

Improving MaxEnt reliability with multi‐criteria analysis and site weighting: A case study on Caulerpa cylindracea

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 6, Issue 3, July–September 2025.
Sampling biases often distort the evaluation of ecological niche models and undermine the reliability of conventional performance metrics. Our improved MaxEnt framework integrates an extended set of evaluation metrics into a data‐driven multi‐criteria‐decision process that objectively selects the model that performs best in multiple validation ...

Experimental validation of Geant4 nuclear interaction models in dose calculations of therapeutic carbon ion beams

open access: yesMedical Physics, Volume 52, Issue 7, July 2025.
Abstract Background The choice of nuclear interaction models in Monte Carlo simulations affects the dose calculation accuracy for light ion beam therapy. Purpose This study aimed to evaluate the dose calculation accuracy and simulation time of three GATE‐RTiON/Geant4 physics lists for therapeutic carbon ion beams, assessing their suitability for ...

From digitized whole‐slide histology images to biomarker discovery: A protocol for handcrafted feature analysis in brain cancer pathology

open access: yesBrain‐X, Volume 3, Issue 2, June 2025.
This protocol comprises seven steps: problem definition, data quality control, image preprocessing, feature extraction, feature filtering, modeling, and performance analysis. We present a standardized, handcrafted feature–based protocol for processing and analyzing whole‐slide histology images, guiding readers through a detailed example of how to ...

Effect of Anesthesia and Diurnal Variation on Chronic Vagus Nerve Activity in Rats

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience Research, Volume 103, Issue 5, May 2025.
Here we report the surgical implantation of CNTY electrodes within the vagus nerve and external electrodes for common‐mode signal detection, to enable chronic recording from freely moving Sprague Dawley rats. Vagus nerve electrograms show suppressed electrical activity under isoflurane anesthesia and robust activity otherwise.
