Efficient Packing of Unit Squares in a Square [PDF]
Let $s(N)$ denote the edge length of the smallest square in which one can pack $N$ unit squares. A duality method is introduced to prove that $s(6)=s(7)=3$. Let $n_r$ be the smallest integer $n$ such that $s(n^2+1)\le n+{1/r}$. We use an explicit construction to show that $n_r\le 27r^3/2+O(r^2)$, and also that $n_2\le43$.

Jamming and percolation of parallel squares in single-cluster growth model
This work studies the jamming and percolation of parallel squares in a single-cluster growth model. The Leath-Alexandrowicz method was used to grow a cluster from an active seed site.

Myrmecofauna of urban gardens in southeast region of Brazil
In an urban environment, ants can find shelter for the construction of their nests and resources available for survival. Myrmecofauna surveys have been conducted in forest fragments and residential areas, but there are few studies on the occurrence of ...

Pyrogenic HONO seen from space: insights from global IASI observations [PDF]
Nitrous acid (HONO) is a key atmospheric component, acting as a major source of the hydroxyl radical (OH), the primary oxidant in the Earth's atmosphere. However, understanding its spatial and temporal variability remains a significant challenge.

IASI‐Derived Sea Surface Temperature Data Set for Climate Studies
Sea surface temperature (SST) is an essential climate variable, that is directly used in climate monitoring. Although satellite measurements can offer continuous global coverage, obtaining a long‐term homogeneous satellite‐derived SST data set suitable ...

Classic squares and broadcast squares
The present authors define a new class of Latin squares (classic squares) and a new class of column Latin squares (broadcast squares). They point out how the squares are interrelated. Namely they give an algorithm how to generate a broadcast square from a classic square.

On packing squares with equal squares
Let \(\alpha\) be a positive real number. Let \(N(\alpha)\) denote the maximum number of nonoverlapping open unit squares that can be packed into a square of side \(\alpha\). By a clever construction it is shown that \(\alpha ^2-N(\alpha)=0(\alpha ^{7/11})\). The authors raise a number of related questions.

Roots of Square: Cryptanalysis of Double-Layer Square and Square+ [PDF]
Square is a multivariate quadratic encryption scheme proposed in 2009. It is a specialization of Hidden Field Equations by using only odd characteristic fields and also X2 as its central map. In addition, it uses embedding to reduce the number of variables in the public key.
