Abstract Hibernation induces significant molecular and cellular adaptations in the retina to maintain function under reduced metabolic conditions. This study aimed to investigate the expression of neuronal, synaptic, and glial markers in the retina of Spermophilus xanthoprymnus during pre‐hibernation and hibernation periods using immunohistochemical ...

Selfish or altruistic? An analysis of alarm call function in wild capuchin monkeys, Cebus apella nigritus [PDF]
Alarm calls facilitate some antipredatory benefits of group living but may endanger the caller by attracting the predator's attention. A number of hypotheses invoking kin selection and individual selection have been proposed to explain how such behaviour

The Sri Lankan endemic subspecies of leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya) is facing intensifying human–leopard interactions in unprotected highlands, from where 107 scat samples indicated its wide‐ranging diet of 17 prey species, the black‐naped hare (Lepus nigricollis) being the favorite, while medium‐sized prey such as barking deer (Muntiacus malabaricus)

Indigenous Management Practices to Reduce Pests and Pathogens of Cash Crops in Agroforestry Systems
The crop with the highest damages was cocoa (63.9% plants affected by black pod disease), followed by Fusarium stem rot was the second highest damage in crops (30.0% of vanilla plants infected). Insecticides and fungicides do not have a significant impact in reducing pest and pathogen infestation.

A perspective on color vision in platyrrhine monkeys [PDF]
Studies carried out over the past two decades show that many platyrrhine (New World) monkeys have polymorphic color vision. This condition results from the sorting of allelic versions of X-chromosome cone opsin genes at a single gene site, yielding a ...

Forest structure and connectivity drive the functional recovery of seed rain
Local forest structure and landscape‐scale connectivity shape distinct but complementary pathways of the functional recovery of seed rain in tropical forests. Structural complexity promotes functionally diverse plant–frugivore interactions locally, while connectivity facilitates the arrival of late‐successional seeds from external sources.
